Which is great to say when you're not passed out at a hospital getting emergency sugery.

As a former recording secretary (the person in my chapter who was responsible for keeping the extra beta pins) I know that girls would lose their new member pins frequently. We had a stash of them and it wasn't a big deal. I know of people who lost badges that were jeweled, I would think that would be more of a big deal.

Also in this case it's not really your fault, I would think your chapter would be understanding of that.

I was thinking the same thing.. How can you be expected to be responsible for an object when you are unconscious?

If whoever's in charge of pledging gives you a tough time about this, in my opinion, he couldn't be acting more ridiculous.

No actually I didn't miss it, I just thought it wasn't really an appropriate response for this post.

Just curious, I might have missed this, but how did he pass out? I know that I have passed out in the past that as a result, I had major surgery as well (appendicitis).... just wondering if it was alcohol induced or something like an aneurism or something??!!

Unless you had emergency surgery and the hospital misplaced your entire suit which the pin was fastened. I think there are exceptions for everything, even your badge.

Good point. Now, to be devil's advocate. What if this kid was totally hammered or all piped up, fell down some stairs and broke his face? Is that an exception? Yeah, it sucks he broke his face AND lost his pledge pin, but it'd be his own fault.

So what if it was his fault (and I'm not saying that it was in this case)?

Well, then I'd say shame on you for losing your pledge-pin. I am sure it'd be worse at some chapters and lighter at others. It appears that there are chapters (see other replies) that don't give a shit if you lose your pledge-pin, and I know of chapters that haze the hell out of you if you lose your pledge-pin.

I remeber when I lost my pledge pin...it was the day my grandfather died, and the clasp (which was loose already) must have come undone. I searched the entire CAMPUS for the thing!

I ended up borrowing an older sister's pin for the remainer of my pledge period, and they were really nice about it. (Probably because I was so upset!)

Reiterating what everyone else has said, talk to your new member educator, and you can either buy one from you nationals or from a disaffiliated member. (I'm not sure what the rules are on giving back stuff.)

Well, obviously it depends on your chapter. We would have been in biiiiiig trouble if we lost ours, and the pledgemaster told the local Greek merchandise store not to order any pledge pins for anyone except himself.

Also we weren't required to wear the pin while drinking outside of the house, since most cops, bouncers, etc around campus know what pledge pins are and know that most pledges are underage...

We were told to take off our pins whenever we were going to be drinking more then a couple. In other words if you plan on being more then a little buzed leave your pin at home/put in on your bra strap etc.....

I found a pledge pin from another house in my shoe one time.

It made a great thumbtack.

Put your PIN on your BRA STRAP??!??!??

I don't know if we have any national rules about drinking with our pin on (I imagine a glass of wine at a nice business dinner or restaurant would be fine, not to the bar or parties or anything) but I don't think I would ever put my pin (pledge or not) on my bra strap. Why not just put it on you Lettered thong or cheerleading shorts w/butt letters?
