Good luck Carried Away! Finding a home where you can spend (and feel comfortable) the next 4 years is so important. My sisters helped me through good and bad times. When I was mugged my sophmore year in college, my sisters were there. I got back from the hospital (fell down) at 3 am and all of my sisters were waiting for me outside of my room on the ZTA floor. It made me cry then and now. That's what sisterhood is all about, friends and sisters forever. So make sure it's right for you. Congrats on deciding to go through rush!

Glad to hear things went well for you today! Just wanted to say try to keep an open mind about the appaloosas and the other groups you're not so sure of. Remember that the girls you talked to were probably nervous too and you may have a completely different experience with different girls the next time you visit those houses.

Thanks for keeping us updated - I know you must be exhausted! Best of luck tomorrow!

So did you have to drop out b/c you couldn't finish the other houses? I get that rush is important but hello that was an emergency and IMPO Panhellenic should have cut you some slack. Obviously, I can't control the houses, but if they knew about the emergency and liked you they should have cut you some slack also. Now this is my opinion and I understand that things don't work this way in the "panhellenic real world of recruitment".

I'm glad your horsey is okay. I love horses (I just don't have land for one or the money for one )

you have to have your priorities...
nothing wrong with that. contact panhellenic so they know what is going on.
get your horse all better then look at other options. by the way, what's its name?

definately let panhel know. they can tell the chapters who may not make quota or who are below total after the week is over that you are still interested. maybe they will even let you hop back in to recruitment.

i am glad to hear that your horse is doing better!!!

I'm a big-time animal lover, as well as a fellow horse fanatic-- and I understand how upsetting this whole ordeal is for you. As you mentioned, colic can be life threatening. I'm very happy to hear your horse was able to have the surgery in time.

I totally understand your decision and send my best wishes that your four-legged girl makes a full recovery.

I'm glad to know your first priority lies with the ones you love.

Did you explain the situation to panhellenic? Usually houses that have informal recruitment are houses who don't make quota or have not reached total, and therefore some of those houses might have snap bids available on bid day.

carried away, are you sure that you had to drop out of recruitment? as others have said, under the circumstances, some slack might be cut. if you have not doen so already, please let your recruitment counselor know. i am glad that things worked out for your horse-sounds like you have your horse at a good barn!

One of the girls going through rush got a call from home - her dad had been rushed to the hospital for heart surgery. She dropped out of rush, and told her Rho Chi that she hated to drop because she had her heart set on ASA, but she had her priorities.

A few days later, she was back at school. We heard what happened, and since we were one under quota and we really liked her, a bunch of us went over to her dorm with balloons to extend her a snap bid.

Wendy's door was decorated by another sorority (where her roommate had a bid). She opened the door and looked horrified, telling us that we were making a mistake - that she had dropped out of rush. We explained snap bidding, and she started crying, because she had thought it was all over as far as sorority as an option. Happy ending all around.

Not saying this is likely, just that you want to keep all your options open. Tell your Rho Chi and Panhel your situation - make sure everyone knows why you are dropping. Family emergencies (and horses are family!) are viewed WAY differently than dropping for other reasons. Let them know how enthusiastic you are about joining.

Hope the horse is better soon - they're awful fragile for being such big beasts!!!
