And... FSU Zeta.... question for you. I don't remember ever hearing any mention of strawberries in connection with ZTA when I was in school. Were strawberries adopted as a symbol fairly recently?

They've been a symbol since ZTA was founded. Mary Jones received them as a gift and that's how they became our symbol.

My chapter (Theta Omega) uses the teddy bear.
The chapter I advise (Kappa Theta) uses the bunny.

Yes, I've heard that story... however, there was no mention of strawberries at all in my old pledge manual of 1978. The only symbols mentioned were the crown and the "zeta lady." Nobody ever mentioned strawberries the whole time I was a pledge.

My chapter used ladybugs. USC uses bunnies, too.

I was so relieved to see your post, blueangel. I didn't know about strawberries either until sometime in the last few years. I pledged in 1985, and I don't remember learning about this during my pledge period at all.

I pledged in 1987 and I vaguely remember hearing about the strawberries but it wasn't until the PP came to town to "clean house" that they were really pushed as a symbol.
Got the bunny picture fixed, too.

He is two years old but he is very small. He is a Siamese Dwarf and weighs about 5 pounds.
My husband is allergic to cats and dogs but not rabbits. Go figure.

How cute!!! We had litter box trained my bunny, but then she started pulling out the wall to wall carpet strand by strand-- and when we caught her chewing on electrical wires and the console TV-- it was outside in the hutch! But I still brought her in a lot to play and get exercise.

The first week, Lucky chewed a wire on our brand new stereo system. He has also destroyed part of a wall and nibbled on furniture. My husband called him "stew" for about 3 months.
That is why you see toilet paper rolls surrounding him in one pic. He also has his own cardboard box and phone book to tear up plus he gets to nibble on the newspaper everyday after we're finished with it.

larue, i love your bunny!! and you are so right about the strawberries-i think that we are showing our age. i do not remember anything about the strawberries during my time at fsu and blueangel and i were pledges at about the same time. i thought it was just me having forgotten. by the way, that would be a great FRED topic-when did we start using the strawberry as a symbol?

i have met many national officers who always stressed that zta does not have a national mascot. i wonder if the strawbery story was dusted off and put into action because the chapters wanted a national mascot?
good grief!! now i have images of zetas in giant strawberry suits, singing and dancing in unison.
