It's a long video - but hey it's more informative and interesting than most of the crap on TV now adays.... I'd recommend watching it if you get a chance as it covers some of what you are talking about below ->

Quote:

I defintely have a feeling that the major media in the US (NYTimes, WashPost, ABC, CBS, NBC, LATimes, etc.) are liberally oriented. The evidence:

1 - NYTimes book reviews (prob. most important in US) has never reviewed either of Rush Limbaughs best sellers, Hannity's best seller, O'Reilly's best sellers, etc., yet every Bush attack book is fully covered.

I can understand why - bestsellers are rated by volume of sales, and since all the aboved named celebs have a target audience the numbers are inflated... now if say sales where to break out of their niche demograhpic then I can see them being reviewed.

2 - The morning news shows never/seldom have guests from the right. Will Neal Boortz's new book on the Fair Tax (Amazon's best seller No. 1 right now) even be mentioned?

Well that's easy to explain - everyone knows that the right is made up undead and I don't want to be subjected to the sight of a Robert Novak ealy in the morning....

Morning shows are basically "fluffer" shows, designed to be entertaining but not exactly thought-provoking.... the fact that conservatives are sparse on the landscape of the morining circuit should be viewed as a positive and not a negative by the right.

3 - NYTimes, WashPost, ABC, CBS, NBC, LATimes, etc. have all run repeated puff pieces on Air America (25 in NYTimes alone), but never mention the conservative talkers except negatively.

I always thought that the Washington Post was more conservative than liberal - or have things changed recently...

Quote:

If talk radio, FOX news, and the Wall Street Journal have a right lean, we're still outnumbered about 20 to one.
See I don't know about that, talk radio is decidely a conservative stronghold (something like 80% of talk radio) in the US... and even up here - although somethings don't fly with the CRTC.

Further I've been under the impression (right or wrong don't know) that alot of the "hard" journalism magazines are also more conservative than liberal in bent.

OK, here's a deal.

Rumor has it that Roger Ailes (Ohio Univ. grad), President of Fox News is probably going to become head of all Fox media properties. One of his goals will be to put more news on the on air FOX owned tv stations (not the cable channel).

(Please remember that not all FOX affilliates are owned by the network -- same with NBC, ABC, CBS)

Those stations come under the regulation of the FCC -- which the cable channels don't.

Even though TV has been de-regulated in terms of "Fairness" and "Equal Opportunity," the on air stations still have to keep some semblence of equality and journalistic integrity.

Let's see if (and how) the "tone" of national newscasts (Ailes will almost certainly try to start one) differ between the on air and cable networks.
