Given the GoF cover, did anyone else imagine Fleur with bigger, wavier hair? And I always imagined Viktor darker skinned, but I'm not sure why. Oh well, they look good to me, I just need time to hurry up a bit.

Is it just me or does that last pic of Harry look like Johnny Depp in the Chocolate Factory?

With Fleur, not that the actress isn't pretty, I pictured someone just absolutely drop dead gorgeous. I say this because that is how she is described. Because she is, oh man what is it called, I just remember during the Quidditch match at the beginning of the book Fleur is called something (I don't have the books in front of me, I lent them to my mom to read). I just remember that whatever she is the men just fawned all over themselves and her because she was just so incredibly beautiful.

The actor who is playing Krum looks like a good fit.

Although I pictured more "the boy next door" for Cedric, but maybe its just the shot of Cedric that is on the site.

I was thinking the same thing! Fleur is half veela, I believe... those women/creatures that are so drop-dead gorgeous and enchanting that they sort of put men in a trance. So I was expecting someone stunningly beautiful to be playing Fleur. The actress isn't ugly... but she just isn't what I expected.

Ditto. Perhaps she just has a really strong French accent, which Fleur has in the books, and can act. But I've seen her pics... eh, alright. Same with the actress who plays Cho... there aren't screen pics of her yet, but just pictures in general. Not quite what I had in mind, but I'm not the casting director.

There have been test screening reviews posted. (Check MN for links.) While it was nice to hear "spoilers" the people that were doing the reviews have never read the books! So I don't know how true to the books they are. Apparently the graveyard scene is QUITE freaky.

Veela, that was the word. Thank you. But your right, she isn't drop dead gorgeous, but she is pretty.

As for the accent, given enough practice I could learn an accent and I'm not a trained actor. I really think they, and I hate to say this, should have been looking for an actress who fit the "look" of the role. Then find out if they could do the accent or not. Which for a movie, the casting director probably made it obvious that if you couldn't do a French accent you "need not apply".

There are pictures of Cho? I couldn't find one.

Are there any pictures of Ralph Fiennes yet? I'm so excited to see him as Voldemort.

Pics of the actress playing Cho: Katie Leung

There are a couple of scans (almost like tabloid shots) toward the bottom.

According to one of the reviews I read, Fiennes does a good Voldie, but I guess the CGI wasn't complete so all the reviewer saw in the test screening was Fiennes with red dots all over him. I assume the animation will be a lot better for the final movie. And will probably be quite elaborate and not look like Fiennes AT ALL.

ETA: HA! I just looked at the bio for the actress playing Fleur. Apparently she was in "Revelations," that odd miniseries that came out a while ago. From the listing on IMDB, it didn't look like she was a major character, but I didn't watch it so I'm not sure.

ETA again:

I'm assuming that Fleur's character falls under the same clause that ALL actors in the movies must be English... unless otherwise needed. Apparently the only non-English actor in the movies so far is the guy who plays Seamus... because he's Irish. Perhaps the French teen audition selections were limited. Hell, I'd love to play Tonks in movie five, and I could probably train to learn an English accent, but I wouldn't be able to. It sucks, because Renee Zellwigger can get away with in in Bridget Jones, but we can't for Harry Potter. Oh well.

I'm not trying to pick on you.

The actress playing Fleur is from Paris, that actor play Karkaroff is from Belgrade and I believe the actor play Krum is also from Eastern Europe somewhere (sorry I can't remember which country).

While there are a few American actors that can pull of a very good English accent, there are many who...for lack of a better term...just suck!
I think J.K wanted to make sure the casting director did not cast an actor like this, just because they have a big box office draw.

I wish I could find her exact reasoning for this. But I'll admit I am gratefully for this stipulation. I for one would hate to have seen Haley Joel Osment (sp?) playing Harry Potter.

It seems though for characters, non-major, that it shouldn't matter if they are Non-English. Personal opinion there.

I think if you ask JK, there aren't really any non-mjor characters. They all play a role. It's also easier since they film in London.

They aren't going to hold casting calls all over the place for non-major characters.

ETA: After reading some things, I think her rule is more that she wants to make sure that her actors have English accent as opposed to faking an English is because she wanted the accents to be flawless to offer more authenticity. You'll find that the England is full of Scots and the Irish, but not some much with the North American accents. I guess she didn't want to run the risk of an actor slipping up and having the North American accetn come out. I'm sure we've all seen actors do that.

I don't know. I'm speculating here again. I think for her it's all about Authenticity (well as much as you can have in a fictional work).

It works both ways too. Huge Laurie, the actor in House, is English. But he plays a doctor in New Jersey (I'm assuming). Sometimes when he has to say "ya'll" it looks a little strained. Kind of amusing.

But I think JKR has her reasons. I imagine all the kids who don't have any lines at all are Non-American, for logistics.

Here's another Katie Leung pic (though not from the movie):

I think she's really pretty.

I was going to post that picture! Grrrr....fine, quick fingers! I think she's pretty too, but I did imagine Cho younger and a little thicker with a more rounded face...I don't know, more childlike.

I could have seen Haley as Harry, too, but Daniel's a better fit, even if he wasn't as well-known here in the States. Anyway, Bill'd better watch out, remember how veela get when they're angry. Honestly, I see this as more of an Arthur/Molly marriage..."Don't make her angry Bill, don't you do it..."
