Two down, One to go!
Usually, I won't root for the Yanks, but the Cards need to LOSE and i'm glad they did. (Still not glad the Yanks won, though)

From a pure baseball standpoint, it would have been great to be at Wrigley this past weekend.
You have to love how Dusty has continued his practice of burning out young pitchers...Carlos Zambrano, you're up next.
As for my Yankees...this is what happens when your GM and owner are on a completely different wavelength than your scouting director and minor league people. The Yankees started down this road years ago with poor drafts and even poorer spending habits. There's already talk of them repeating the late 60's (the first big downturn for the team) and the early 80s (Dave Collins and Steve Trout anyone?).

Their draft was predictably attrocious, too - then again, so was the cubbies . . . when will some teams get off the "5-tool" bandwagon?

No idea...not that someone like Craig Hansen would have helped the Yankees, since they have obvious proven depth in the farm system pitching-wise...(end sarcasm)

yeah, that was pretty absurd - that hansen fell all the way to 27th was stunning, although I love the the Sox didn't take him at 24 because they knew they could wheel him with the second pick, since the pads and twins wouldn't take a Boras client . . . Baseball's draft makes no sense at all.
I can't imagine what would make the Yankees pick a high school shortstop who is committed to KU to play basketball . . . C, you need to head down to Tampa and clean some house, the scouting squad is made up of retards, as far as I can tell.

The big problem is there's a HUGE disconnect between the scouting department and the rest of the organization. Steinbrenner won't even listen to Mark Newman and his people, so when draft time comes their opinion is nothing. From reports I've read, most of the scouting people wanted Hansen, but Steinbrenner (and Cashman maybe) wanted Henry.
I know you're a Sox fan, but want to help me with me hostile takeover of the Yankees front office? I figure we could rebuild their farms system within five years.

Yeah, I could be totally into that - I don't think it would even take 5 years, honestly, if you used Rule V to stock the pen/bench and pitched some fungible commodities in the process . . . hell, you'd still be competitive in the meantime, as long as Matsui and Sheffield stay upright.
This is from Gammons' column yesterday, and I totally agree with it:
""I look at what Scott Boras was able to do with his three top pitchers and while I tip my hat to him, he got them to the three teams that could afford to meet his price," says one GM. He is referring to Boras telling teams that it would take a major league contract to sign the following pitchers: Wichita State's Mike Pelfrey, Craig Hansen of St. John's and Tennessee's Luke Hochaver and got them to the Mets, Red Sox and Dodgers, respectively. "I have no idea how the Yankees can give Jason Giambi six or seven years, then pass on Hansen because they don't want to give [him] a big-league deal," says another GM. "We couldn't afford him, but Hansen has the best arm, the highest upside and is the quickest to the big leagues of anyone in the draft. And the Yankees let him go to the Red Sox?"
That's why Brian Cashman and Gene Michael should have more control over drafting and development."
There's no reason for it, it's insane.

It is absolutely insane, like a planner on how not to run a baseball team. Honestly, I was extremely upset after the first round; I didn't think there was any way they'd let Hansen get to the Sox, and that it was a given they'd meet Boras' price.
Gammons was on WEEI yesterday, and said essentially the same thing in stronger tones. He tends to be more outspoken when on radio, and it was great hearing him let loose on the Yankees front office. They seriously need a wake-up call.
My boys are truly in dysfunction right now; I'm lost for words on how they're being run.
