I still have no idea how the musical got the Pulitzer. The book is a mess.

I think part of the reason Phantom flopped was that they set out this HUGE publicity campaign on TV (ads every 15 minutes), but didn't release it world-wide for a month later. As a result, by the time it DID go world-wide, the world was "over it" and just decided to get the DVD. The limited release x 1 month didn't help their campaign at all...

Hopefully they'll be smarter about it with RENT.

Honestly, I don't think there's any way that RENT won't be at least a moderate success. It is one of the few musicals I can think of that really transcended the typical theater audience, especially among younger adults. Unless it completely sucks (and with so many original cast members, that seems unlikely), there will be plenty of Rentheads going back to see it multiple times.

Haha I thought someone was going to recommend a movie to RENT! Does anybody still do that, or do we all just get Netflix now?

I just put Devil's Playground in my Netflix queue, if anyone wants to talk about renting movies. It's a documentary about Amish kids going on rumspringa.

Haha, I'm pretty jealous.

Actually I'm going to run down to the local indie video rental place and see if they have it. They had American Pimp a few years ago, so we rented it . . . it was interesting.

Netflix is our best friend!!!! I only go to the movies now when there's a movie I "have" to see on the big screens!! (eg, Star Wars, Titanic, etc.)...otherwise, I'll put it on my "list" and wait for the movie to come to me!!

Hey quick question...was Taye Diggs in the original cast or was he someone that they added on? I see him singing in the trailer and I was like, I didn't know that he could sing!

He was in the original cast. I believe that's how he and Idina met.

Really? What part did he play? My husband has the original Playbill and Program from Broadway (he saw it when it first opened) and Taye Diggs' name isn't in it anywhere...did he come in at a later time??

Yes, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel met while part of the original cast members of Rent.

I read somewhere that Idina said it must of had something to the with the fact that she mooned him every night!

Taye wasn't an original cast member in Wicked but he played Fiyero for a short time. I won't give away his character for those of you who haven't seen it. He did play against Idina's character Elphaba and Glinda too. He was amazing. He has a beautiful singing voice.

And smoking hot if you ask me!
