I hear you all
Hey Sorhors,
Thanks for the responses. These are true accounts of what I have experienced over the years. There is this one guy that I know and everytime I have contact with him, he makes a joke about SGRho. I questioned this guy about his hatred for our sorority and his response is always, yes the sorority with the big girls. I hate being around people that like to make us the butt of some people's jokes. Okay, we are not the largest or most popular, but every sorhor that I have met has been classy, intelligent and down to earth. I rather be humble and have the Love of God in my heart, and show respect to my fellow man/woman, than to walk around with this condescending attitude thinking that I am God's gift to greekdom.

While I have a great respect for all the sororities of the D9, and greeks in general, I must say that Sigma Gamma Rho has always been my favorite. As a freshman in '96 at TSU, I will honestly say that the ladies of Alpha Beta was the first to assist me, and offer me guidance. I found that quite intriquing, especially considering the fact that they had no idea my mother was also a member of the sorority. I've always said that if I was female (in which I'm not) as far as a sorority is concerned, I would have only considered Sigma Gamma Rho. "Greater Service, Greater Progress" speaks volumes to me.
Keep up the good work, and continue to hold the visions of your founders in the highest of light.

About a year after I was inducted into Sigma, I spoke to a friend of mine who I hadn't spoken to in about a year and a half. We were on the phone talking for a while and I invited him to one of our events that we were having. I really did not know that he wasn't aware that I was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho and I kept saying that we were having a fundraiser and we this and we that (referring to Sigma) and he asked "who is we? are you referring to you and James (my husband)". I quickly responded, no Sigma Gamma Rho. After I said that he was shocked and responded with " You are a Rho.I would have never thought you were interested in Sigma Gamma Rho, I thought probably Delta maybe but not SGRho". I was very offended and I asked him why he would think like that. He really had no answer and said "Well, the Rhos are cool too". (Yeah he kept calling us Rhos!!)
It really bothers me too when others make it seem as if Sigma Gamma Rho is second best to other sororities. Most of the time, I just brush it off my shoulders and wear my letters proud because in my heart I know the truth, my sorors know the truth as do our supporters. We are very beautiful (in every sense of the word), strong and intelligent women (just to name a few of our qualities). Whoever can't see that is really blind.
I LOVE SIGMA!!!!

The fact that others don't "get it" is what makes us so special.
I had a class with an Omega who looked at my t-shirt and said, "you must be really smart. I thought you had to be smart to get into that sorority."
I've observed as a teacher (and from my own experience growing up) it is always that super smart kid who sits alone, not following the crowd, that gets hated on the most.

I HATE HATE HATE being called a Rho...I've hung on many a misguided man (several who were Greek themselves) for referring to me or my beloved sorority as "Rho"...
I blame the Phi Betas for this...if they chose to use their first letter like everyone else we wouldn't have this confusion.
