I was discussing shelving for my little home office with mr. honeychile, and he thought the old bricks & boards were the way to go, too! So far, it's been the one decorating "problem" I've had with him, though, so I shouldn't make such a fuss, I guess.

Please clarify. Are you talking about "bookshelves" made with cement blocks and 2x4s? I'd never heard them referred to as that, or really anything before!

Pages ripped from ANYTHING and hung on the wall is tacky.

12" "decorative" (and I use that term losely) cinder blocks and 12" x 6' shelving boards; generally stacked 5 shelves high.
I at one time lived with brick and board book shelves, brick and board record shelves and brick and board entertainment center!
UGH....currently we have 30 feet of brick and board shelving - 5 high in my basement/his home office. UGH!

Well, I wouldn't say RIPPED....I intrically clipped them and made a huge collage that spans the entire hallway.....many (often drunk) girls said they actually like how I put it all together, like it was a jigsaw puzzle....

Okay, a huge collage could actually be very cool. I was imagining random pages taped to some dude's bedroom wall.

The "finer" ones, such as those in my room when I was a kid (they're still there), are made with real bricks rather than cinder blocks. The wood should be painted, of course.
