Here's a (slightly) related question...what is with the "Deuteron" or "Preceptor" chapters? What does that mean? Is it just a different designation or do all chapters have that?

Class names

At our school every organization pretty much has a name for each of their pledge classes. Everyone else usually does something in relation to the number of pledges such as "terriffic twelve" or "emotional eight". However, we do something in relation to the alpha, beta, gamma etc.

So far we have had:

Amazing Alphas
Beta Beauties
Glorious Gammas
Darling Deltas

I don't know whats going to happen with the names once we get to alpha alpha!

Yeah, we used to designate letters to our new meber classes-I was in the Sigma new member class, but nationals decided that that was hazing so they allowed us to go up to Omega and then we were no longer allowed to name new member classes

That's how we do it as well. And after Alpha Omega, it goes to Beta Gamma (not Beta Alpha); after Beta Omega, it's Gamma Delta, etc. It's not until Omega Psi that we go back to Beta Alpha, Gamma Alpha, Gamma Beta, etc.

I would guess the specifics of how this is done, like so many other things, vary from group to group.

we actually just had our omega class so our class for this spring will be the alpha alphas. after the alpha omegas i am not sure if we will do beta alphas or epsilon alphas like aephi's chapters are designated but we have a few years to figure that out.

We went to double letters after we had gone through the greek alphabet with rush classes (alpha through omega, plus founders). The next class after Omega was Alpha Beta, mainly because we didn't like the association of "AA" as a fraternity rush class. My class is Alpha Zeta, the class before me was Alpha Epsilon, after me was Alpha Eta. You get the idea.
