My first was CompuServe, December 26th, 1993. I was on maternity leave waiting for my daughter to be born and my (now ex) husband said "Why don't you check out this internet thing?". We had DOS 6.22 and a 1200 baud modem. CServe, at that time, cost $9.60 an hour and it was a "toll call" from our house, so after I got those first bills, I had to cut down a lot!

Now I have:
1) personal email addy for friends/ family/ bills
2) work email addy JUST FOR WORK
3) sorority email addy, for official fraternity business stuff
4) yahoo account, mainly for junk, posting on usenet, and a couple yahoo groups

And what I used to pay for one hour (cserve + phone), I pay for a whole month of cable internet. Go figure!

Dee

Compuserve, way back in 1992. Suckin' gas and haulin' ass on a 9600 baud modem! DOS 6.2, no Windoze for a long time (until I finally got Windoze for Workgroups 3.11).

First email account was my senior year of high school (so the end of 1997, beginning 1998) - wpbulls was the "screenname" for that one

Now I have 5 email accounts:
2 Yahoo (but one that I rarely check!)
1 Hotmail
1 Cox
1 Graduate school

I really should set up a separate account for sorority related stuff, but I'd probably forget to check it as often as my "regular" account

My first email was in the very early 1990s through a local BBS. How I miss those days and that 2400 baud modem Also had early email accounts through America Online and Prodigy (anyone remember them?) Got a geocities email in the mid 1990s, and a yahoo email after that. Apparently the geocities email is still active and forwards to the yahoo account, since geocities merged with yahoo forever ago.

Currently:

- Real email through ISP
- Backup general family email through ISP
- Yahoo (check occasionally, junk/signup type account)
- Gmail (check daily/every other day, use for mailing lists and registering for stuff I actually want to read online)

I used Prodigy back in the early 90's. I think I had my Prodigy account around 1991 or 1992.
I then got an email account through AT&T around 1995 or 1996.

My first AOL account was in 1997 which I no longer use.

From AOL, I moved onto my UCF email account and now to my Bellsouth email account.

Sorta a tie between Carleton Univiersity and the military - both gave me an account in Sept. '93

1995, on AOL for something silly like $35 a month! I still have an account that is very similarly named to that first screename, but I never use it anymore. I suppose when my parents stop using AOL, it'll go bye-bye.

Let's see, over the years I have had (not all at the same time):
1 school address
3 work addresses
1 job-search address
1 freelance address
1 address for my students
2 personal addresses
3 SAI-only addresses

Now I only have two - one work, one personal. Life is much simpler that way.

I was on prodigy back in the early days (I was in like 4th or 5th grade I think). It was my dad's account. Then we switched to compuserve and AOL went to the flat rate so we switched to that. We finally got rid of the AOL this past year so I currently just have 4 main e-mail addresses.

1 gmail (primary address)
1 school (just for school and panhellenic stuff)
1 yahoo (it's turned into the spam account)
1 dot mac (it came with my idisk...I have all my finances directed here so it's in the same place)
