I don't know why she's teaching, but I wish her the best of luck. People are overlooking the real issue in this whole thing, which is: Jenna Bush is freakin' hot .

Haha, I'm a she, but yes, I definitely meant Barbara Bush, Jenna's fraternal twin sister. Although the elder Barbara does have those sweet pearls and suits....

The DCPS are 90 percent black.....the income part doesn't have anything to do with it.

The DCPS does require some sort of education background to become a full-time permanent teacher.
However, the school mentioned is a Public Charter School. Here in DC, those are given more flexibility in the hiring of teachers.
ETA: After reading the whole thread, I want to reiterate that this is a Public Charter School, responsible for its own hiring and firing (one of the perks of a PCS in this city). She's not really joining a "system" per se.....just one particular school with a particular mission.

So Senusret I, does that mean white people have no culture?
That seems very elitist that someone different from yourself isn't as good as you.

Look, that is not what I am saying.
"Getting some culture" is a colloquialism that's way older than you or I and can be applied to ANYONE of one culture stepping outside of what they are used to and doing something different.
You want to interpret that as white people having no culture, that's on you, but that's not what I am saying.

White people do have culture but Jenna's white, I'm sure she knows that side.
I'm black if i was to go to a all WHITE TOWN you can say I'm getting culture.
It's kinda like when you hear the word "prejudice" most people think of white's looking down on Blacks but it can be a multiple of things. Just when you hear culture people (although it's wrong) think of Blacks, Asians, Latinos and not whites.
I agree with Senusret's last post.

I have read here and there that she's never been particularly interested in politics (this is prior to the 2004 election, when she and her sister helped campaign for their father).
Aside from her dad being the pres., it seems she is doing what any recent graduate would do-- getting out there into the Real World. Good for her and good luck to her!

Speaking as a teacher, who teaches students that are not of my background("culturally" or otherwise) it's difficult no matter where you teach. I've been teaching for 6 years now...it's no picnic, but I love my job and my students. I've dealt with kids who drive better cars than me(not hard to do) and ones who have practically nothing living with 15-20 other people in their 2 bd house, you learn something from every one of your students.
My best wishes go out to Jenna, teaching is not easy, whether you're teaching rich kids or poor kids.
If anything she will be able to tell her dad 1st hand how much his NCLB SUCKS big wang(standardized testing is a waste of time), except for the highly qualified teachers part, with that I agree.

Everyone remembers that movie with Jaime Escalante teaching kids advanced placement calculus? This could be another version of it. I see great things. And then I marry my baby Jenna.
