On my campus, we have grad. students acting somewhat like resident assistants for all of the greek housing. They are hired by the school but they also have to apply with each organization to get the spot in the house. Each of them receive a stipend for living in the house. They also must follow different requirements given to them by the chapter whose house they live in. For example, my chapter's house mom was required to spend so many hours at the house in case anyone living there needed her. They are there also to look over each member living in the house, like a house mom, but also to regulate the fraternity parties that must be registered with Greek Life. I lived in the house and it actually worked out great. Our grad student was asked back for a second year. I actually thought that it benefited everyone because the grad. students were younger and many of the just having finished their undergrad. And if I'm not mistaking, all of the house mom and dads are greek themselves so they know where we are coming from.
