My mother hip me to that book. I am like you, I read that book until I finished it..When a book is really good, I will stay up until I finish reading it. I was like that with "In Search of Sisterhood", by Soror Paula Giddings. Enough said...

I am out of school and have about 3 book already to start reading.. I agree with the other Soror/SF who are reading "For the Love of Money"..it is slow...How about I meet Omar..He is fine, and of course married..After I finish that book I will be reading "An American Dream", my moms got it for me, she said it was in the Essence as a book to read, I also have Nelson Georges, "Woman Short"..and I might slip in that new one by E.Lynn and friends..Some of the book I did read early this year that were pretty good were: This Just In, (Soror) Yoland Joe, Written in Red Ink, Passing, Not a Day goes By (Ok) I expected a lot more. When I go home I will see if I see what other good books I have to advise about...

i have to say that the most interesting book i have ever read was Wild Seed by Octavia Butler. it is about an african man/spirit who is trying to build a master race of people with special abilities when he meets an african shapeshifter.
it sounds far fetched but it is an attention grabber.
check it out!!

I have read all of Eric Jerome Dickey books and they are addictive. Don't shy away from Milk in My Coffee if you pick it up. Some points struck a nerve with me. Finish the book you will be glad you did. For those who also love his books, the new one will be out in July.

Our Kind of People is a very interesting look into a world some people are convinced does not exist. But the author is obviously biased to two organizations in my opinion. Not enough to make me stop reading though.

For people interested in reading slave narratives I strongly recommend "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl".

I read one book by Octavia Butler, Kindred, have you read that one? If I remember correctly it was about a Black Woman who is going between two different time frames.. Slavery and the 70's, the trip was she would go experience something trumatic and would wake up in a different era! Check it out if you have not already read it...

Oh boy when I saw this forum about books, I just had to reply. It's me Divinedst who hasn't been to GreekChat since the summer and I forgot my password. I absolutely didn't feel like going through the trouble so this is my new handle.
Eric Jerome Dickey's books are definately addictive . TimelessDST just stated that he has a new book coming out in July. Please keep me posted on that one. So far I have read all of books. He has this style where you will just be up late at night just reading.

What's the name of that book?

Has anyone seen anything new by Tina McElroy Ansa? I think she is a great author. So far I've read "Baby of the Family",
"Ugly Ways", and "The hand I fan with" Am I missing anything?

For those that haven't already, you may want to check out these authors. I have read at least one book by each of them and I enjoyed them. Connie Brisco, Rosalyn McMillan, BeBe Moore Campbell, Walter Mosely, Bertice Berry, Anne Rice, and Nathan McCall

Here are some books that I have read that were alittle different then my usual selections but I thought that they were interesting

"Coming of Age in Mississippi" by Anne Moody

"Mama Day" I believe it's by Gloria Naylor.
This one was kind of tricky but ended up pretty good.

"Tell me I'm dreamin" by Eboni Snoe.
It's kind of slow at first but ends up interessting.


"Incidents in the life of a Slave Girl" by Linda Brent
This one is a narative of a slave fron the 1820's to the 1840's.. I had to read it for a class but I really enjoyed it.

hey y'all!

I just finished The Maintence Man by Michael Baisden (I know, I'm late, sue me ) I breezed though it in 4 hours. I didn't really like how most of the female characters were written as a little flighty, but then I know how I can be sometimes when I'm wrapped up in someone. I'm almost in the middle of Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made by Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant. I had to force myself to put it down at 2 this morning so I could get some sleep (and was late for work too, teehee). I'll let y'all know if I feel the same after I've finished. Coldest Winter Ever is also sitting on my shelf, waiting it's turn to be read. I'm also planning to pick up the anthology Got to Be Real by Eric Jerome Dickey, E. Lynn Harris, Colin Channer & Marcus Major.

I had almost forgot about Walter Mosley. I read his entire murder mistery series. Some call it the Easy Rollins series because that is the name of his central character. Denzel Washington played Easy Rollins in the movie "Devil in a Blue Dress", the movie was good, the book was better. Definitely read the books in order.

I will keep everyone posted on when the Eric Jerome Dickey book is set to hit the shelves.

not that I have all that much time for pleasure reading , but I am enjoing the "Left Behind" series about the end times. It's great! It really does show a realistic interpertation of the book of revealation.

(ps, Wednesday the 27th was my 21st birthday..I'm legal!!!)

I have been away for a while but reading is never something that I can depart from.

A lot of the books previously mentioned are excellent and I agree. I read For the Love of Money by Omar Tyree and just as I expected I DID NOT LIKE IT. Omar Tyree is still full of himself. The only thing good about the book was the poetry.

Here are some books that I have read recently that are noteable:
1. Details at Ten by Ardellia Garland (Yolanda Joe's new pen name for her mystery writing) **EXCELLENT

2. God Don't Like Ugly by Mary Monroe

3. Damaged by Bernadette Y. Connor

4. Not All Dogs by C. Kelly Robinson

5. Sasha's Way by Scott Jenkins (the plot is off the hook although the writing/editing needs major work)

6. Picking Up the Pieces by Sungee (again writing/editing needs major work)

These are my most recent reads.

BTW: Terry McMillan's NEWEST book came out yesterday: A DAY LATE, A Dollar Short on sale at Media Play!!
