I remember...

One of my floormates that could really sing, would sing the same song everyday... "DON'T YOU CLOSSSSEEE ONE MORE DOOR...." and at that point we'd all get up and slam our doors.

When TLC came out with the video for "Baby, Baby, Baby"... where they were living in a college dorm, a few of my floormates and I got dressed up like Left-Eye, Chilli, and T-boz and imitaded them. I mean condom over the eye and everything.

Maaaaaaan you knew it was spring time when you would find 30 Black folks lounging on the wall after lunch, before dinner, while they should be in class, etc.

I remember one night we had a Christmas party in the Black Culture House and after wards had a big old snowball fight. Sooooo much fun, soooooo much fun.

One word--Wal-Mart. Everyone always needs SOMETHING and the car is always full. And it never fails--you always see someone that you know who had the same idea.

Cool

Well I lived in a dorm that had students ranging from ages 16-40 (my school is really non traditional)...what most people including myself did during those times were:

1. Play spades...or dominoes
2. Somebody would get their radio, and a whole bunch of mix dancehall/reggae cd's, and we would dim the lights in the lobby and hold something we would call (Club Bay Vista [that was the name of our residence hall])
3. Hop in the car and go to wal-mart
4. Just sit and wait for the drunk dorm residents to come back from the club and fall out in the lobby
5. Go buy a whole lot of chips, liquor, etc, and have a party in someone's room (those were the best!)

I miss dorm life....but not enough to pay 3000 a semester for a room

I remember the games and watching the walk of shame, and walking up to A&P, but the best times were water fights and sunbathing on the roof.

OOOOOHHH!! I'm glad you brought this back to the top!! I spent Friday night in the town of my alma mater reminiscing with some old college friends.

We (not me, I use "we" as an inclusive term for all Witt students, but I DID NOT do this) would steal (borrow? for $25,000 I think "we" earned it) cafeteria trays from the CDR and use them as sleds in the Hollow!! Oh, the fun!!!! The hill was huge, and we would go sledding at like 10:00 at night, when it was good and dark. It was a good study break!! And it was SO much fun watching people sled right into trees!!!! LMAO!!!!! Dang, as I think back, someone could have pulled a Sonny Bono, and it wouldn't have been that funny. But whatever, it was funny as all get out back then!!!

Hmmm...thinking back....

Well, a sure fire way to pass the time was sitting around with my girls in someone's room talking, and gossiping and laughing all night. Then around 2 or so we could look out over the path theat led from where the dorm with the most Black men to the dorm with the most Balck women and see who was creeping where for their late night booty call. If you stayed up til around 6, you could see some of the same fols creeping back home, too.

We would also do things like throw sweatbox parties in our African American Residential dorm (Ujama) *Girl, I hope that is not a fresh perm you are wearing up in there* or watch movies and play cards or dominoes.
Ahhh, those were the days!

My freshman year I remember playing spades and dominoes for wash money in the t.v room or just sitting up talking about all of our no-good ex-boyfriends that we never got over. That's the only thing I miss from DU.

When we got bored we would turn off the lights and play hide and seek in the dark. Or we put the stereo in the hall and dance until the one person who was studying complained to the dorm mother. We also played stupid games, like who can knock down the wall, and somebody actually did it one night and put a whole in the wall.

OohTeenyahine, you're in Hawaii right?? um, sah-rahs, when is the far-west regional conference?? i hear it's in hawaii this year...we may need to do some investigating...
Kelli,

Sorry it took a while to get back to you. Yes, the moans took place at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Now that it's finals week again, I can't help but think of that semester.

I remember doing a search on sororities represented in Hawaii and I came across a website created by Deltas from Hawaii. Talk about small world...I met a Delta last Saturday at the pier when my BF came home from Mexico. Her husband is one of my BF's chiefs on the ship. She saw my AGD letters and we immediately started a conversation about Greek life at UH! She told me that many of the Deltas in Hawaii are military wives, so they're each other's comfort while some of their husbands are out on deployment.

I wish I could remember her name. I'll just refer to her as Chief's wife for now. She's such a sweet lady. I'll probably see her around at Coast Guard functions.

If you or any one of you Deltas ever find your way to my rock let me know!

We weren't necessarily bored, but we stayed up many nights playing Bid Whist and Penuchle. I learned all the card games that year! We usually got hungry late at night and at my HBCU back in the day we had to sneak out after curfew. It was a group effort, someone on the third floor had to decoy the Dorm Matron up there with excessive noise, then the chosen runners would go out to buy the food, and upon our return-(it had to be coordinated) We would run back to the dorm--There was no way Campus Security wouldn't see you coming back, but we could outrun them in our sleep! Our compatriots would be watching and when we came running, they would decoy the Dorm Matron again and allow us to be let back in the dorm and escape up the stairs.

I am wasting away time looking at jail dudes.....

Anyway, in UG, we would stay up until about 6 a.m., sleep, go to class for noon, some back and nap, and party all over again EVERY NIGHT!! It was my junior year and I just needed stuff to do. We pulled pranks, played video games, etc. I don't know what drove us to it....
