To play devil's advocate, perhaps they don't see it as you see it.

They originally had wanted to affiliate with my national but were unable to for reason I am not completely sure of but it may have to do with some of the founders having disaffiliated from the two NPC groups on their campus.

I'm sure some of those students must have wondered "how did they get my name?"

This is a HECK of a lot different than an invite to join an honor society, that is a registered student organization and that the school gives them the info. This is like someone looking you up in the phone book or knocking on your door and asking you to join. It's apples and oranges.

With all the concerns about security, this is something that the school should REALLY keep an eye on - it could come back on them if they haven't done anything about it and this random org has somehow contacted students (especially if it is through means like school e-mail). If this group wants to start a new chapter, they should rent a room on campus or close to campus and ask the student affairs office to advertise the meetings.

It would be one thing if a member of this group had a bio sister at your school, she told two friends and so on and so on, but to just cold call people who haven't shown any interest in this group is quite another matter.

I know for a fact that some of the founders were SDT sisters before they disaffiliated, I am not sure aobut the other local.

As to the girl tha I referred to, I think she, along iwth the active sisters of this GLO are the main force behind it.

This is something that I hope we candeal with very easily but I have a feeling it's going to be a long, drawn out, messy pricesses.

While I don't deny the right of any campus student org to exist, if you want to differentiate yourself from the locals who refuse to affliate with CPC:

1) Put a disclaimer notice on the CPC website and all NPC-Chapter websites explaining that the local sororities are not affiliated with NPC or CPC, and as such, are not bound by the same rules as NPC/CPC--- list the things your nationals are big on: no hazing, national support, alumnae connections, more funding, scholarship opportunities, leadership workshops, campus funding, etc.

2) In all recruitment materials, list this disclaimer

3) Write a letter to the editor from CPC, explaining the difference.

Don't bash on the locals; just create an awareness campaign that distinguishes the differences.

And one more thing. The locals at your school hold recruitment out of bars, and this new up and coming local has a founder that has a "reputation." Do you really think the women she and her like-minded "sisters" will recruit have what it takes to be one of YOUR sisters? Local or national, there is something for everyone. Let them recruit the caliber of girl they want. Remember, someone initated into a local can still join an NPC. So you're not at a total loss if they somehow drag the untarnished perceived "good" girls into membership.... and those "good" girls realize they joined the wrong org and come over to your side.

ETA: I'm not hating on locals and I don't want it to seem I am advocating someone in a local walk away from her sisterhood. I'm just writing that in this instance some things the NPC chapters can do at this school. Sorry in advance if anyone takes offense. I'm pro-local groups-- without locals, there wouldn't be any nationals today!

I think there is something on their CPC website saying that the reason nationals' dues are higher is because they have networking, programming etc etc etc.

You have to be REALLY careful how you word stuff like that, because if you come off too negative against the locals it can backfire really badly. If you state "nationals are non-hazing" you're kinda implicitly saying that the other groups DO haze and it makes you look like the bad guy.

I personally started a local on my campus, and if what is being said is true I think the girls on the campus will see EVERY house for what they have to offer and make their decision from there.

If they are just in it for the parties and such then I really can't see it lasting. I know that I personally put in a lot of time and effort with my chapter and so do the rest of my sisters.

I do have to say though we work with our campus Panhellenic and abide by the Greek Life Office's policies. We want to work side by side with the other houses, and we have a great realtionship with them.

Keep your head up! Even if a few members are dating Fraternity Brothers it wont matter, remember they all have to vote! And maybe the guys don't wan't that on their campus.

As far as contacting girls your University should do something about it! I would contact the your Dean of Students and voice your concerns (maybe get the other Houses to join you). I know that on our campus we can only send out flyers and they are approved through the student life office first!
