Why DID you make it into a sorority?

Generic is about all you can get when a women who comes through recruitment is a Freshman and you don't know much about her! I still remember leaving your house that day crying my eyes out!

SHUT UP!! I left DG-- my other Pref-- crying my eyes out too!!

ETA: My answer to this question is the same as Hannahgirl's-- I even had the same GPA coming out of HS! I was involved in very little in HS-- cheerleader and intramural sports-- I also had some volunteer experience!! But in addition I had a rec for ADPi from a HS teacher! But I know for sure they did not see the leader in me that I came to be-- but I didn't see that coming either and I thank ADPi for making me into the person I am today!

Actually, I didn't make it in during recruitment. I didn't recieve a final party bid from any sorority. So my rush was pretty much done then. I didn't do my preference signing with the rest of the girls, I did it in the greek life office about 3 days before. I didn't suicide, but signed the 6 sororities in order of preference. The Greek life adviser told me that I probably wouldn't match up and that I was done. So after the rest of the girls did their preferences (on a sunday) they called everyone who didn't match up. I got a phone call saying I didn't match up. So I figured I was done. The next day my roommate told me that someone from Student Affairs left me a voicemail. So I checked my voicemail and it was the Greek Life Adviser, telling me that I had been offered a bid to Tau Delta, my no.1 choice! So I kinda ended up being the "dark horse". I was a little upset about it at first...but it all worked out for the best. I just wish the Rho Chi's had told us that that could happen, that we could not be asked back to anything or not be asked to pledge...that was never stated anywhere on rush materials.

I'm not really sure why I was. I am kind of a misfit in the group. I still love my GLO but I am so not the atypical sorority girl. I kinda don't fit in & in some ways I do. Is that weird?

I knew I didn't want to have anything to do with Greek life. I went to Bible study and cracked a sorority joke in frount of the vice archon for Phi Sigs.... she then was like what... then she turned and I saw her letters... I was like crap... she laughed and it gave us a good way to talk From there I met a good bit of the sisters that went to this Bible study. It changed my thoughts on Greek life.

I was told that a main reason I got in was because they knew me, and that I went through formal recruitment (which I hated every minute of). They knew if I would commit to going to see all the sororities, that I wasn't comfortable being around that I would be committed to Phi Sig.

My advice through all this is get involved on campus and meet people. It is very important they may be your brothers/sisters one day.

I was warm and friendly with the girls. I didn't tell them how wasted I get every weekend, or talk politics, or tell them I was desperate for a bid from ANYONE so I could wear letters.

I met their GPA requirement.

I asked questions and acted interested. I asked how they liked the philanthropy (Children's Miracle Network) and about their mixers with the other fraternities. I asked how involved they were on campus, and if their girls were diverse (pretty much any sorority will use that as a springboard to explain how great their chapter is, how they have a lot of races/socioeconomic backgrounds/college majors represented.) I gave them the chance to talk up the sorority, and took opportunities to talk myself up too. When I talked about myself I used specific examples, and then changed the subject, so I didn't seem too self-absorbed. (i.e. them: "So, what were you into in high school? Were you in any clubs?" me: "Yeah, I was captain of the soccer team the year we made it to state. Do you guys have any intermural sports teams?"

Other than that, I dunno -- I think if I'd rushed me, I would've cut me! I didn't have any outstanding traits, not a particuarly spectacular GPA, not a legacy. I was the recruitment director's rush crush, though, so maybe that was part of it.

A "rush crush" is when an active member "falls in love" with a PNM during rush and desperately wants that PNM in the house....

It's basically when you're so taken with a PNM you "just have to have her in the house!!!"

Same deal - I was the rush crush of one of the more influential seniors. It helped that I had seen her hanging on a rugby player who was up on the bar mooning everyone at some seashore dive Labor Day weekend, and had told her that as far as I was concerned, the whole thing had never happened and Mr Rugby seemed like a very nice guy.

Also there was a lot of criticism because I had dated someone with a terrible reputation, and she had dated the same guy the previous summer. She reminded everyone that if they cut all the girls Playerboy had ever gone out with, they might as well forget making quota.

I don't think I could pin point why I made it into ADPi (maybe one of my chapter sisters could help out on that one)....but I'd like to think they saw the leadership potential in me that I didn't realize until I signed my bid card and became part of the First and Finest!

I don't think I was anyone's rush crush, but I do know the FRC told me that she saw me on that first day of FR and KNEW that I'd be a sister at the end of the week!
