I coached rowing this summer, it was such a good experience. I coached an intermediate group, which was great ebcause these kids were kinda older, like 15/16, but still, getting these kids to be excited at 7 am in the summer was a challenge. But I think that I connected with them pretty well. I got to know them on the level where I could say "shut up and row!" and know that it wouldn't hurt their feelings. I got to cox the guys too, I connected the best with my guy's squad because I coxed them all the time. I think they got a kick out of the fact that I swear and that I tell stories about me effing up in practice.

Coaching novices (people who dont know how to row) was REALLY hard, because I'd try to tell them something like..."ok you have to drop your inside shoulder" they wouldn't understand. Whereas with my intermediate rowers, If I said "6 seat, drop your inside shoulder and reach out!" they knew what I was talking about. I just had a hard time backing up the new stuff with old stuff. I forgot that these kids didn't know it. But by the end of their session, they were some rockin' novices.
