Yes yes yes - always ask before you post pictures! When I posted pictures I announced it at meeting, via e-mail AND at an event. Ensure that all chapter members feel comfortable talking to you about their pictures, and if they ask to not have their pictures on the website please respect that wish with no further questions asked..

Yikes! By skimpy, I didn't mean downright Victoria's Secret (sorry guys). More like any Greek looking at the pics and recognizing all-white ritual wear would probably have a heart attack at mini-skirts and spaghetti-strap tank tops for rituals.

Sorry to disappoint any of you gentlemen who hustled over to our website seeking hard-core hoochie-wear. You may wish to go check out the US Olympic Volleyball team instead.....

edit: I'm regretting picking on my own chapter; they look like they're adorable as well as being hard-working - as I've bragged elsewhere, raising $170,000 in one year for childhood cancer is no mean feat. Just some things about their webpage and other greek pages that make me cringe.

Co-sign on putting local history on your local site... your international history is on that website. I don't care if it's one year or 100 years since you were chartered as ABC, you have your own history and it is something to be proud of. Were you a local first? If so, preserve those memories, please.... some of us history lovers would love to know how you became who you are today.

another suggestion...

Run Spell Check.

I fell victim to the calender/calendar error way back when I started the site. I'm sure many others do too.

And yes, AVOID loooooooooooong over drawn flash intros. They take forever to download.

And geocities has a nice thing where you can have text follow the cursor... yeah don't do that.

Same goes for super cheesy animated .gifs. Multiple ones really hurt the eyes. (Especially the ones that all move at the same time...) .Gifs really dumb down a site, IMHO. You try and attempt to have a professional and social website, yet I see goofy flowers opening and closing, animals running all over the place... you name it.

If your webmaster is going to die if your chapter doesn't have a flash intro on your page, at least post a "skip intro" link.

Check with your organization's headquarters to make sure there aren't any specific rules or guidelines you need to follow when creating a chapter webpage. Obviously, most are going to follow within the guidelines posted here, but some require that they review the page before it is considered "official." Some do not allow personal contact information and instead prefer a single email (usually president) or general phone number. They also have "fresh" eyes and may see something that is questionable that you may not after working with it for so long.
