Yeah watch out for that. every single friend i know that goes there have slipped into academic probation!
UT is also a big party school, but also can be very academically rigorous. I have not met one person that does not like going here.

About Texas

If you are looking at going to UT your GPA needs to be high! They are overcrowded as it is and it is VERY competative to get into as a university. You really need to be in the top 10 percent of you high school at the very least. Moving on. I havent heard a lot about the Greek system there.
I think the 2 biggest greek systems in TX are at Texas State and Texas Tech! They are the systems you will hear the most about because at those schools if you aren't greek ... well almost everone is greek...it is just the thing to be at those schools. Very big deal. They are both known as party schools; although, everyone keeps saying texas state is getting tougher academicaly, but they have been saying that for a while now. Texas State is in San Marcos and everyone loves to go down the Guadalupe river there and go to Schliterban in New Braunfels. It is a very beautiful fun area to live in and it is only 30-45 min(depending on how you drive) to Austin.
Hope that helps.

Thumbs up Texas A&M

The Chapters at TAMU are very big. Most NPC are at least 200 members. There are 12 Chapters ( Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Zeta, Tri-Delt, Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Kappa Delta, Phi Beta Pi, Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Gamma and Kappa Alpha Theta. All have beautiful houses except Gamma Phi Beta, they're new and I believe are in the process of building a house. Admission to A&M is very competitive and so is rush. Quota this year was 52, I believe all but one house didn't make quota. Great school and great college experience.
