I've also noticed that I don't have as many pop-ups even without having the Safari pop-up blocker turned on!
The reason for this is that Mac and Unix users aren't a large consumer segment. There is still adware out there that gets onto Macs and because OS X runs on a Unix backbone, it's also opened to a ton more viruses now. The difference is that Macs will ask user permission before auto installing some ad or virus program.

Is it true that spyware blockers can cause connectivity issues on DSL lines?

The trouble shooting people at Verizon told me that, but I didn't believe them.

Ok I've got a problem with Spyware.

I downloaded Spybot and ran it the other night. It got rid of most of the spyware except for 2, one of them being Wild Tangent.

Spybot said it couldn't remove it right then and there because it was currently "in use in the memory" or something. So I restarted the computer and when I did, Spybot restarted... and took FOREVER. I seriously waited over 20 minutes for it to do it's thing (setting a retrival spot or something) and I think it froze. I have tried again since, and Spybot keeps freezing.

What am I doing wrong?

And now I am getting error messages from WT saying the files are incomplete.
Oh my god, my computer has the same problem. Although it doesn't take me forever to start up the computer.

What is Wild Tangent?

Wild Tangent is just another Spyware type.

And co-sign on getting a Mac. I work on one at the office. I just got OS 10.3 (finally!)

The thing is that I don't really do a whole lot on my PC at home except surf and download. My design work is all... well at work.

But to have a G5 and a widescreen monitor... yeah... i'm dreaming.

Arrow

WildTangent.

1) Run SpyBot in safe mode (press F8 after reboot at 'starting windows' message).
2) Fix stuff. Reboot. Eat a sandwich.
4) Do search for file called Wtcpl.cpl; that's your WT Control Panel applet. Should located in C:\Windows\System32. With Control Panel closed you should be able to delete the file.
5) Erm. Go out get fresh air, read a book. Save the planet etc.

We bought a new computer last week and installed Spybot. It keeps telling us that it's immunizing us against everything it's blocked but every time I run Spybot, the scan shows "DSO Exploit-5 products" in the list of spyware found. Why do we keep getting this/
