Fraternity rush - long

Actually it could be a really POSITIVE thing if they all go into different orgs. If the school they go to is anything like my school from undergrad, there was A LOT of rivalry and problems back then amongst organizations, primarily the frats. It would have helped if people were already friends from the different organizations in terms of bettering the relations.

My friend joked that they if they did join different groups, then they could become their respective chapters IFC representatives and basically "run" the whole fraternity system in a few years.

Actually, she did point out that leadership possibilities would increase for each of them if they join different groups. Something that I believe happened with her and her friends. That they held various offices within their groups.

Good point. Are they OK with only one of them being President of the group and the rest of them being members without an office? Doesn't mean that this will happen (they could all wind up on exec together), but it is something to think about....how well do they deal with leadership roles within this group?

All of these posts are very valid points that should be considered. I wonder what would happen if they have this "pre rush" meeting, then totally put this issue on the back burner and don't focus on it. Go through recruitment, and see who gets bids from what groups. If they all get bids from a group they all love, problem solved! If not, then they can discuss further. It's similar to a couple trying desperately to have a child....once they quit focusing on it and "take a break" from taking meds/doing every little thing possible, they find themselves pregnant.

Maybe they should take a few days now to think this out on their own, and maybe write their thoughts out on paper (without consulting with each other) and then compare their answers. Could be that when they all have a group discussion about it, one or two of them might not be speaking up.....

Hahaha, at my school, frats made reference to "strategic bids" when they pledged a guy they didn't really like because he was part of a package they wanted.

Of course, this was when one guy was not as cool/athletic/party-type/smart/whatever, not when the guy was blatantly bad material.

Yeah, it is not unusual for sororities or fraternities to do this. I'm just not familiar with it happening with five bids.
