It seems to me that the pro coaching ranks has a lot less job security than the college ranks. I'll be a Coach K fan wherever he goes.

I don't think Duke's going downhill...and if he wanted to use that as a reason to leave, he could have done so after the Elton Brand/William Avery/Cory Maggette class left.
I just think he wants a new challenge - he's proven he's as good as there is or has been in college basketball, why not try something new?

I really hope the NBA sets up some kind of age limit in the near future -- otherwise, the NCAA is definitely going downhill, and I think that sucks. I can't blame the players, either, because it would be so hard to NOT jump into the NBA as soon as possible because there's always the risk of something going wrong -- either serious injury or a shitty season like Chris Duhon had -- that will hurt them in the draft.

Good it should end. Basketball isn't like football. The NCAA is essentially robbing these kids blind as well as the schools.

Man, of all teams, its' the freakin' Lakers??
Seriously, if it was any other team i'd be happy for him, but this is like Gen. Patton suiting up for the Nazis in the middle of the war.
Although, i'm sure Dawkins will keep everything on track for Duke.
and i too would like to see an age restriction implemented in the NBA. College basketball is suffering and the level of play in the NBA is too.

Agreed, bro. The NBA is suffering often because the players are too immature to be as wealthy as they are.
Damn nouveaux riche.

LOL, I think the NBA is suffering because teams grab these kids that aren't even ready to play yet. It's really not exciting to see some 18 year old sitting on the bench for a few years -- when he could be in college playing.

As for egos, I'm not sure there's an NBA arena in the country big enough for all the NBA egos that Krzyzewski would have to deal with and Krzyzewski's own ego.

Actually, having known him and his daughter, Jamie, I can tell you that the man has NO huge ego. He is truly a humble man for all of the success he has seen.
Now Christian Laettner -- there's an ego. Long story.

Supposedly next year's high school class is pretty weak, so there SHOULD be less early entries from the high school ranks. More college players.
I say if they're ready, go for it - they'd be going to college to play basketball anyways, not for their degree. If there's a Lebron James, Kevin Garnett, or Rashard Lewis who can make the jump, go for it.
