:: Patty Jackson's 411 for the week of June 21st, 2004:
Brandy has shaken up her management team. Benny Medina is out and her mom, Sonya is back in. Benny Medina is the man who made J-Lo a star and when Brandy was looking to rejuvenate her career she turned to him. He immediately went on a promotional campaign depicting Brandy as a bad girl. I wasn’t feeling it and neither was Brandy’s mom. Sonya didn’t approve of how Brandy was being marketed…the pictures in Vibe, details of her failed marriage, rumored feuds with members of Destiny Child, and who is really her child’s father. Yes, Brandy has been through a lot over the years, but she should be known for her music not for scandal. Brandy’s new album, Afrodisiac arrives in stores on the 29th.
Why is Eric Benet fighting Halle Berry and their marital prenuptial agreement? Eric says he is doing it for his daughter. Eric says his daughter, India, wants nice things like others girls…clothes, jewelry, and a nice home. He says he needs the money so he can give her what she has become used to. He claims he and his daughter are used to living a certain way. In addition to fighting the prenup, Eric wants Halle to pay his legal bills and give him spousal support. Will Halle pay up? She does love his daughter. Will she part with her money so India can live a good life? Halle’s new movie, Catwoman opens next month.
Star Jones, from the ABC show The View, is sparing no expense at planning the wedding of the year. This has to be “a dream come” true for Star, who is planning to marry investment banker, Al Reynolds. Singer Jaheim needs help! Last week the singer was arrested on drug charges. Police found 25 bags of marijuana in his Mercedes Benz. The incident happened within a drug free school zone. Jaheim says he’s innocent and that he is the victim of harassment, but friends of the singer say he is smoking too much weed. He has been seen at various public outings appearing incoherent and staggering. What is bothering the singer? Doesn’t he realize he is ruining his career? Last year he made headlines when he attacked an announcer when the announcer questioned his sexuality. Jaheim is best known for the songs “Just in Case,” “Put That Woman First” and “Fabulous.”
Phil Jackson won’t be returning to coach the Los Angeles Lakers and this fall we may find out why. Phil has a new book about leadership coming out, and I hear he slams Kobe Bryant in the book. The Lakers brass is behind Kobe 100%, despite his upcoming rape trial. In the meantime, Phil Jackson, Shaquille O’Neal and others on the team want out because they can’t stand playing with him. Shaq feels they disrespected him when they gave him a no confidence vote, yet they let it be known they want Kobe to resign. Kobe’s selfish ball-playing is driving Shaq from the team.

Jennifer Lopez is a stepmother, but don’t tell that to her stepchildren, because they don’t know about her. In a recent interview Marc Anthony’s ex-wife, Dayanara Torres, revealed that she has not told her children (ages 10 months and 3 years) that she is no longer married to their father or that he has remarried. She says they are too young to understand.
This has been a tough year for gospel sensation Yolanda Adams. Earlier this year she suffered a miscarriage with her second child, and now word comes out that she has divorced her husband, former NFL player, Tim Crawford. They have a three year old daughter.

Bobby Brown is vowing to stay out of jail and he says he will not miss any more child support payments. Bobby and Whitney have been working hard on their new reality series. The show may be carried on VH1 or the Showtime network. Both networks are in discussions to run the series. This show will definitely be must see TV. We are going to see Whitney and Bobby warts and all, which may not be a good thing for Whitney’s career. I hear she’s very wild in the series and she and Bobby do their fair share of cussing and fighting. These two may put the Osbornes to shame. Whitney is scheduled to do her first concert in China on July 22nd.
Michael Jackson is coming out with a new boxed set of his greatest hits. The set is due to drop in late August right before his child molestation trial. The 4 CD set will contain four new songs.
