I know. I went to one panhel event and there were a ton of people there so it was actually quite overwhelming not knowing anyone. Honestly, what irks me is NOT that people don't show up but if people sign the Evite that they are coming and then never show up, now THAT is really annoying. Case in point, at the last minute on Tuesday I found out the place we were having the Happy Hour at was booked for a private party. Several of us stood outside for almost an hour to wait and see if anyone else would show up who wrote that they would and they never did. But this was a random thing anyway that the place was closed. I have been planning events on a monthly basis, to answer that question. I kind of get the feeling as well that people are more likely to hang out with people from their "own GLO's" too, especially if you all already know each other. I am still curious about how to get the fraternities to come out more. I know there must be a ton of Greek guys in the city.

The Mark Twain Diner is good.
I will make a huge effort to attend those greekwide events. I am not on any panhel list so I have no idea about their official events.

I think your effort has been great winneythepooh and I understand it has been discouraging but keep on planning and eventually the group will grow. I think a lot of people are interested or else they wouldn't have signed up for the yahoo group in the first place. Unfortunately people are either busy or nervous about coming to an event on their own. I know I have been really wanting to go to events but since I am still active between work, school and chapter its hard for me to find a good day - I know I am looking forward to events in the summer b/c my schedule will be a little lighter.
So keep up the good work!!

Thanks AEPhi Sierra I understand where you are coming from, and I am sure everyone is really in the same boat. As I said though, my only biggest pet peeve is when I plan stuff, people say they are coming and then never show up. I would like to plan a lot of fun things for the summer, perhaps a trip to Great Adventure or even an overnight camping trip so we really have a chance to get to know each other. But if people bail on little events like a happy hour, it is hard for me to envision something bigger taking place. I thought of maybe getting a "committee" together to plan stuff, that way people who are really interested in seeing this group grow would come out and get to know each other initially. I am planning on checking out the larger NYC Greek group at one of their upcoming events. I can really see how it can be overwhelming for people though going out to meet new random people for the first time though. And the reason I am working to form this group is because I want something smaller and less overwhelming to be associated with. I heard the other NYC Greek group is really large. When I went to the one panhel event I went to, it was the same way and was really overwhelming. ~ALlison
