I actually thought the terms were reversed, if your transferring genders that would imply surgery. I've heard the term transexual used for people who had and had not had surgery.

But just to be sure I looked it up at dictionary.com

transgendered: Appearing as, wishing to be considered as, or having undergone surgery to become a member the opposite sex.

transsexual: One who wishes to be considered by society as a member of the opposite sex.

or

One who has undergone a sex change.

I read this thread wrong for some reason I thought we were talking about Hermaphrodites, and I thought calling them freaks was awful harsh because they were born that way . ..

Anyway what would the olympic committee do with an hermaprodite athlete?

Men? Um yeah. The same way females bind their breasts to prevent them from protruding.

James, interesting you would bring this up. I just saw a special the other day that talked about the number of hermaphrodites that are misgendered because they were given the wrong surgery as a baby. Usually because the parents wanted them to be a certain sex and they wouldn't wait until the child began to show his or her's natural tendencies.

But to answer your question, if they still had both organs, I doubt if they would qualify in an case. And for those who had an organ removed--how would they know?

BTW Axeam, I think the war in Iraq, the prevalence of drugs and violence, and the increase in hate speech and crime are a greater indicator of what the world is coming to than trans in the Olympics.

Wink

Ladygreek I have to disagree with you on that one......There's always been war, there's always been drugs, even hate & crime but never a rule that allows men who have sex changes to compete as women in the Olympic games.
