I just got my acceptance letter yesterday and I am pleased to announce that I got into my first choice Master's program: The Rehabilitation Counseling program at my undergrad! I'm so relieved and excited!

time to hit the books
A few years back, I was going to do a grad program in educational leadership, college personnel services, with an emphasis in student affairs.
I was accepted provisionally, which was fine, I knew I could handle it because I earned As in graduate level classes I took while working full-time.
But I was accepted at an out-of-state school, and before I was to start, non-resident tuition went way up. Loans weren't something I wanted to take on, and the school didn't include grad assistantships as part of the program.
I took a time out. I know student affairs is the area I want to work in, and to to it, I need to do grad studies. So, this fall, it's back to school I go, in state, closer to home.
I tip my hat to those who did well on the GRE. I took it a few years ago, and it reflected I was breathing. I have yet to do well on a standardized test, so much so my high school counselor deemed me too dumb for college.
I tuned her out and earned two BAs.

Hey good luck w/ your program this fall. I'm in a student affairs program now out in DC. It's great! I hope you love your program. What kind of work do you want to eventually do when you finish? Or are you already working in student affairs?

re grad sxhool
Re: student affairs: I've done a post grad internship in a campus activities office and helped the Greek life advisor and Panhellenic, and learned a great deal about organizing for recruitment. I also assisted the Homecoming and orientation committees by going to planning meetings and helped run events. I was very involved with campus actiivity planning when I was an undergraduate.
I know there's a proper way to respond, but I am learning with this laptop, and need to get this new unruly machine mastered by fall.
I have a journalism background and have run crisis communications workshops.
I want to look into leadership development, substance abuse programs, volunteer management, Greek life, and yes, take a computer class to update my skills.

I'm on my way to Grad School myself. Business.
Then onto Houston or Dallas.

Thought I'd toot the horn of my University and my department. Glasgow University Dept of History of Art was named #1 in research in the UK. Pretty awesome award, and definitely well deserved. http://www.gla.ac.uk/departments/his...104505_en.html

I would consider taking courses for the GRE if you're in a field where the department offers fellowships based on academic performance (read: GRE scores and GPA). In performance-based or vocational fields, it's not that important, and some don't require it at all.

I'm kinda in a melancholy mood about grad school. I got a letter back from my first choice school and I was put on the waiting list. Ugh. So I won't hear if I have received a position until summer. I feel so defeated, even though my husband keeps reminding me I haven't been eliminated from consideration. I'm upset about the wait, 3 months until I find out!!! I really need a masters degree to advance in my field. If I don't get in this year, I don't know if I want to reapply because applying is such a hassle.
I just don't know how to feel about all this.

I'm going to IU (Indiana University) for grad school. My advice for anyone applying is to 1: take the GRE early on 2: double check the school to make sure they have ALL of your materials, even GRE scores (some schools never received mine) 3: don't sweat the GRE's (I barely broke 1000 but still got into 4 of 6 schools I applied to), and 4: don't give up if you're on a wait list. I was put on a wait list and a spot opened up. Also, two of my friends have just come off of wait lists to schools they really wanted to go to. Don't give up hope.

I'm trying to figure out if I want to go away to graduate school or not. I received word this afternoon that I was accepted with an assistantship at one of the schools I applied to.
What to do... what to do...
