I fondly regard Florida as the southern-most tip of New York.
The state's Greek Systems are very diverse, ranging from small to large. I would say that UCF, USF, FSU and UF have the largest.

i go to school in North Carolina and at our school, greek life is extremely small. Our college has about 10,000 students but our greek life is only 7% of that.
most of the bigger colleges in the state have a larger percentage. i think a lot of it depends on the school itself. my college wasn't established until the 1940s and greek life is relatively new here still (in the past 10 years or so).

Tallahassee is part of the Deep South. Its nothing like West Palm, Tampa or Orlando, all of which could be considered New York South.

Lol I would agree. I saw as many rednecks there as I do in Georgia.

I go to the largest school in NC and we're about 9% Greek.
We have 23 IFC fraternities (from 20-100 men) and only 6 NPC sororities (from 90-125)

Yeah, Tallahassee is barely in Florida... it's basically southern Georgia.

He also speaks the truth.
My family is from the South, and I was raised that not rushing was not an option. I often say that I honestly, sincerely thought that anyone who was not in a sorority or fraternity had tried to pledge, but didn't get a bid!

I retract my original statement:
Florida is the southern-most tip of New York... Stuart and down, this is true.
Anything North of Jupiter should be considered the Redneck Riviera.

A big Deal at Certain SChools
You can't really make a blanket statement like "Being greek is huge in the South." It is definitely huge with certain schools and possibly certain families. I have lived here my whole life and it really isn't as big a deal as people make it out to be. THere are plenty of schools where it's not that big of a deal though.

Jupiter and stuart are more South Central, or North of South Florida

Jupiter is in the northernmost part of Palm Beach County.
Stuart is just north of it - it's the southernmost part of Martin County.
Stuart on up north to Vero is known as "the Treasure Coast" and it's not really rednecky. It's like 90% senior citizens. It's comprised of Martin, St. Lucie & Indian River counties.
And of course, north of the Treasure Coast, you have the Space Coast.
