I am grateful to Shadokat for raising this issue. I've been literally cringing through some of the threads (FSU and FIT most recently, but some in the past as well) not only because of the "ABC group wouldn't be as successful here" comments, which are really bad, but also because of the comments that sounded a bit like "They should pick my group because of this and this and this...." (and BTW I'm not saying that no Alpha Xi Delta has ever made those types of comments). Felix Unger or not, I "assume" that collegians from the campuses in question read these threads, and it's almost like one of us posting to a PNM in the middle of formal recruitment that she should pledge our particular group at her campus because we have X, Y and Z to offer, and/or disregard another group because they don't. Very uncomfortable. All our organizations are so wonderful, and they all put so much thought and effort into extension -- we should leave it to our extension teams and the collegians to sort things out. IMHO, we can and should express our happiness or sadness in general terms when groups get selected from one level to the next, but to be getting into the speculative weeds about ability to provide alum support, procure housing, get over past gossip or reputations, etc. is just inappropriate and probably does cause needless damage.

As a moderator, although not for this forum, I don't believe in deleting threads that are of interest to readers here. I think if something is wholly inappropriate or offensive, yes, delete it. Most, including myself, LIKE to hear when a campus is expanding, and what ultimately ends up happening. But when people offer up opinions, as you did, about alumnae support or $$ or whatever, it could potentially harm the process. I wasn't singling you out though, and you should be aware of that. The same sort of things were said about MANY sororities, including my own, by folks in the FSU thread. And I defended my sorority as best I could, so that, god forbid someone from FSU was reading this, they wouldn't believe that D Phi E was JUST a Jewish sorority, because back in 1950, they were at FSU, or that D Phi E had NO women living in the Tallahassee area, but in fact, we have nearly 100.

My posting this topic has NOTHING to do with being a moderator, adpiucf. It has to do with believing in the FAIR process of NPC expansion. I may be a bit more sensitive than others because I come from a smaller NPC sorority rather than one of the larger groups, but I think sometimes we smaller NPCs already have a tick against us because we don't have 200,000 initiates and 180 chapters. That's fair to do. It IS NOT fair to the NPC expansion process to have folks here who don't belong to a certain group or have correct information on a certain group spouting off things that they know nothing about.

I didn't PM you adpiucf because you weren't posting about my sorority. If you had, I would've said something to you publicly, as I did with PhiPsiRuss when he spouted in the FSU thread.

The point is, this issue is RELEVANT to ALL expansion threads, not just the two I've mentioned, and I think it's worth more than a PM to someone who probably had no malicious intent.

p.s. And for those who thanked me for posting this, you're welcome. For those agree, thank you!

Greek Chat is an idea-sharing forum, and that idea sharing is the spirit in which we post threads on expansion, recruitment, chapter activities, etc.

I'm sure if the moderators are notified of a post that is inappropriate, they will delete it.

If there are threads you don't think should be on GC, my advice is don't post on them and PM the person who initiated it, requesting that they remove it.

I think we want to keep everyone happy here, and no one would intentionally want to post something that offends anyone.

Thumbs up

Yes, there are a lot of Yeas and Nays about how to post new Associations, I thing everyone is really excited about New Expansion anywhere!

There have been many Reports about Greeks expanding or declining! These are on many Threads that some do not get.

The thing is, when We as Greeks Expand, that is wholesome! When a Greek Oranization does not expand or is Kickked off of a Campi for stupididy, that also effects all of us!

Get The Picture?

While this is an open Site, each person has His/Her own point of view.

So, let them have it!

Last word on FSU...

Well, sadly, it if wasn't for Greekchat, I wouldn't know which groups were chosen to present at FSU because no call or letter was sent to me from the panhellenic.

I think that was stated very well!

Amazing for what is found on GC and some get so upset about it and what is said!

denise_DPHiE, I think you have a very valid point!

With the amount of people on GC and I know that there are some from National Greek Organizations who check it, it can be very eye opening!

That has always been my contention as We as GC Posters are much more open on posting in the beleif that we are the only people here! I have always contended that The National HDQ can learn a tremendouss amount of knowledge from some very intelligent people on this Site! There are many who can dig information out and pass it along for our general knowledge of which I for one am very thankfull for. I learn new things every day about other Organizations!

Live and learn, here you can!
