Alpha Omicron Pi chapters are able to choose their own chapter names. We do not follow a straight greek letter or state-letter system. Here's a list of our first 24 chapters:

1. Alpha -- Barnard College (January 2, 1897 to 1914) *
2. Pi -- Sophie Newcomb/Tulane (10-8-1898 to1976; 4-19-1986 to 1995)**
3. Nu -- New York University (12-26-1900 to 1961)**
4. Omicron -- U of Tennessee (4-14-1902 to present)
5. Kappa -- Randolph-Macon Woman's College (4-13-1903 to 1960)**
6. Zeta -- U of Nebraska (6-5-1903 to present)
7. Sigma -- UC Berkeley (2-6-1907 to present)
8. Theta – DePauw 8-23-1907 to 1979; reinstalled 3-19-1983 to ?)**
9. Beta -- Brown (4-13-08) *
10. Delta -- Jackson College/Tufts (4-13-1908 to 1969; 4-11-1987 to present)
11. Gamma -- U Maine, Orono (4-16-1908 to present)
12. Epsilon -- Cornell (4-23-1908 to 6-1962; 5-6-1989 to present)
13. Rho -- Northwestern (6-11-1909 to 10-1973)**
14. Lambda – Stanford (11-5-1910 to 1944)*
15. Iota -- U of Illinois (2-27-1911 to present)
16. Tau -- U of Minnesota (10-29-1912 to present)
17. Chi -- Syracuse (12-19-1914 to 1958; 4-14-1985 to ?)**
18. Upsilon -- U of Washington, Seattle (9-18-1915 to 1995)**
19. Nu Kappa -- SMU (9-25-1915 to 1942)**
20. Beta Phi -- Indiana University (6-13-1916 to 1998?; 2000? to present)
21. Eta -- U of Wisconsin, Madison (4-22-1908 to ?)**
22. Alpha Phi -- Montana State University (2-23-17 to present)
23. Nu Omicron -- Vanderbilt University (4-28-1917 to present)
24. Psi -- U of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia (4-13-1918 to 6-1958)**

I know for sure they do not ban the Greek System (since Theta Delta Chi has active Charges at those schools), therefore my question is, how did these Chapters got banned by the schools?

I'm just curious, since sorority banning does not happen so often. If this is too touchy for you, please say so, I didn't mean to bash anyone/any GLO.

Re: A Single Letter Chapters: Poll

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Princeton does not recognize greek letter organizations. Is your chapter there a city wide chapter?

Nope. Tau Charge went inactive in 1990

Princeton did recognize fraternities until the late 19th century. In the 1980s, NIC and NPC groups began to charter (sometimes reviving chapters dormant for over 100 years) at Princeton University. The school does not recognize these chapters (administration has their collective head up their ass), and these are not city-wide charters, as NIC and NPC groups only issue collegiate charters to a host institution, and not a region.

Princeton University does not recognize the GLOs, but they are alive and thriving nonetheless. (I am an alumna of Theta's chapter at P'ton.)

I don't know the dates, but some fraternities existed very early on at Princeton and then were banned (I want to say pre-1900?). Then GLOs formed in the early 1980s, without University recognition, and have really grown from then.

Tri-Delta Legacy

Hey Sugar & Spice:
My Grammy was a Tri-Delt at your chapter so so long ago! Maybe you have her in your records. PM me and we can talk! This is such a small world!
I didn't know I was a legacy until this semester. There isn't a chapter of Delta Delta Delta at my school (West Chester Univ. of PA) - but I am a Phi Mu there. Some of my best memories are from being greek!
I can't wait to hear back from you!
~Ashley~

So sad that only eight of our single letter chapters are still active.

Alpha (1902) - Miami University of Ohio
Beta (1908) - Cornell (inactive since 1932)
Gamma (1923) - Minnesota (inactive since 1965)
Delta (1909) - DePauw
Epsilon (1909) - Indiana University
Zeta (1910) - University of Nebraska (inactive since 1971)
Eta (1910) - Baker (inactive since 1934)
Theta (1911) - Ohio State
Iota (1913) - University of Iowa (recolonized 2002)
Kappa (1914) - University of Washington
Lambda (1915) - Kansas (inactive since 1976)
Mu (1915) - Cal Berkeley (inactive since 1969)
Nu (1915) - Knox (inactive since 1964)
Xi (1916) - University of Cincinnati (inactive since 1977)
Omicron (1916) - University of Pittsburgh (my chapter!!! )
Pi (1917) - Eureka College
Rho (1917) - University of Denver
Sigma (1917) - Louisiana State University
Tau (1918) - Wisconsin (inactive since 1971)
Upsilon (1919) - North Dakota (inactive since 1988)
Phi (1919) - Washington State (inactive since 1958)
Chi (1919) - Oregon State (inactive since 1977)
Psi (1920) - Franklin (inactive since 1990)
Omega (1920) - Oregon (inactive)

Sharp-eyed readers will notice that, although the University of Minnesota chapter is designated "Gamma", it was actually installed in 1923; years after the rest of the single-letter chapters. I don't remember why this is, though, so if any Delta Zetas know, feel free to chime in!
