Mississippi Sucks, Big Time! - Page 2

I understand. I just hate for people to think that all Mississippians have no teeth, marry their cousins, and don't wear shoes. Its so not like that. Your being from Mississippi, I know you already know this. I actually did vote to get rid of the Confederate flag (it was actually my very first election). Suppose after that election, I decided, well what's the point of voting anyways. This is Mississippi. It won't make a difference! A lot of people took that mentality. Not me. That doesn't deter me. I was naturally disappointed, but I was just ready for the next election! I know what you mean about complacent family and friends. I have an older uncle who laughs at what "that white school" has done to me. He refuses to vote. He actually thinks that at the polls they take pictures of individuals who vote and who they vote for to terrorize them...sounds paranoid, huh, well this same uncle was nearly beat to death in his own yard by white police officers in the '60s.

06? Huh? I'll bet I know your sister! My cousin was initiated in Iota Kappa in '98, I think!

I don't want to give too much of my identity away. But my school's initials are very similar to those of your sister's.

I have an uncle the same way. He was jailed for protesting in Jackson.

and you probably do. Considering how small MS is, everybody is connected in someway!

LOL!!!! GO TO HELL OLE MISS!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, did you see the BET Awards tonight? The first African American mayor of Philadelphia, MS was on there! He talked about how when he was little while he and his grandpa watched tv, his grandpa had his shotgun in hand because the KKK marched outside.

Lol i'm more of a JSU Tiger than anything else. But if I were still in state i'd go to MSU

and yes I saw thought, it was a good story but I felt it kind of reinforced negative stereotypes about the state

I have to say that was the highlight of the awards show for me. I was so excited to hear his story and see him stand on the stage.

One of my current chapter members went to JSU and talks about the Sonic Boom all of the time. We actually had a TV watching party for the BET awards a few years ago because the Sonic Boom's drum major was a soror. Seems to me so was UMAL or the 2nd Supreme. It's been awhile but she loves JSU and we hear about it every Fall.
