At my school our sororities and fraternities on campus are not allowed to have any type of housing, on or off campus.

Almost all of the fraternities at NJIT have houses (OX, Pi Kappa Phi, APD, Tau Delta Phi, Alpha Sigma Phi, TKE, Iota Kappa Phi, TEP, Psi Upsilon, Sig Pi and Kappa Xi Kappa)...but all of these houses are disgusting for the most part and cramped.

3 sororities live on our row...AST, D Phi E and a local KYE...but if you asked them they won't call it a house. Someone else owns the house and they have to pay rent each month to live there. It's considered to be more like an Apartment.

Sigma Psi Kappa does not have a house, because the row houses that our greeks reside in....is being planned to be knocked down and turned into store fronts with apartments above them. There's no point in us trying to do accuire a house.

Instead some of my sisters live in a house on the row that is NJIT and RU students...both male and female that pay rent each month. It's a better alternative...and the parties that are thrown are much more organized.

After 100 years, we finally got our own house last fall. There is a law in chicago that states "five or more women living together with different last names.. etc.. etc.. brothel."

So.. to solve this, the sorority houses on our campus are considered "dorms" in legal documents. This gets us around the zoning problems.

We had quite a bit of trouble getting this house too. About five years ago, a national sorority came on our campus (nationals have come and gone here.. we always outrush them so they dont last). They were given the house we had been lobbying for for years within two years. Needless to say, we were pretty pissed off. BUT... we got our house.. and its AWESOME!

So now we are the second sorority house ever in chicago. Sororities up at Northwestern have houses, but thats because they are technically in a 'burb called Evanston.

here's a pic. We have 28 bedrooms.. all the houses here look like mini-dorms... OUR HOUSE!

The Omega Xi Sorority House

Only one other sorority (a member of NPC) at Murray State University has a house. The other four (all NPC) have large stand-alone chapter suites - i.e. no live-in.

Omega Xi lost their lease earlier this semester. I have heard rumors as to why, but as I know nothing official, I won't speculate or share them here. The house was conveniently located too...
