If there isn't enough room for groups of sixty, then why not make the groups smaller and have open houses on both friday and saturday of the first weekend? then have the second round go over two nights during the week, then pref on the next friday or saturday and bid day on sunday.

at Syracuse, if I remember correctly (we have 12 houses), this is what our schedule looked like:

Wednesday - Sorority Info Night
Friday, Saturday, Sunday - First Round/Open House (12 parties for girls... 30 some for the sisters of each house)

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - Second Round, Philanthropy (cut to 7 for each girl)

Saturday - Preference (cut to three for each girl)
Sunday - Bid Day

Having a longer recruitment was tough sometimes because you just want it to be over with and meet your new members already, but having the days off in between and using time during the school week allows for continuity, keeps the women interested, but still allows for people to get most of their schoolwork done... I couldn't imagine trying to stretch rush between two weekends with no activities in between. I think you would lose many of the women who got cut from houses they wanted and are leaning towards dropping out... but that's just my two cents.

I dont know about fraternity rush, but I never noticed any kind of problem with women going home on the weekends or partying. We had a rule though that no potential new members were allowed to go out - they were supposed to be dry and in their rooms from start to finish (to prevent dirty rushing). So maybe that had something to do with it?

Our campus has 6 sororities and recruitment seems to go pretty smoothly during the week.

Does your school have recruitment while school is in session?

If there are not enough big rooms to conduct recruitment while school is in session, one thing your school might consider is moving it to the week or so before classes begin. That way you don't have to even worry about school work and the availability of rooms

Our school does that, and it really seems to work well for us

She means the sororities all have 60 members, not that there will be 60 rushees in the groups. If the rooms aren't big enough to hold the sorority, they certainly won't have room to stuff the rushees in.

Thanks for all of the ideas.

Unfortunately I believe that unless rush becomes a huge thing with like 200 women (as apposed to our avg 60), it will have to be during school.

Our school is really anal about people being in the dorms when school isn't in session. Some semesters they don't let people move in for the spring until sunday, the day right before classes start.

I'm not sure if I will even be able to move it to two wknds.

Right now I'm gearing up for our rush in January. Hopefully we'll have good turnout since now we're diving between four groups instead of three.

Thanks again!

Actually she left out a day...the schedule actually goes like this:

Day 1: Visit all 13 sororities
"Day 2": Visit 10 sororities, this "day" is spread out over 2 days so that you visit 5 houses on one day, and 5 different ones on the next day.
***Day 3*** (the forgotten day): Visit 6 houses
Preference: 3 houses
Bid Day!

So the rushees actually go 13 - 10 - 6 - 3. Much less of a cut!
