Lynn, Stohs finish 1st in Once in a Lifetime voting
Published on Monday, November 24, 2003

Amy Preston
Kansas State Collegian

The phone call came, and when she found out the news, Kelly Lynn began to scream and dance around her apartment -- more than once.
Lynn, K-State alumna, and her fiance Aaron Stohs, senior in veterinary medicine, were officially named the winning couple of the Collegian's first Once in a Lifetime Plans a Wedding on Saturday.

"I can't even express how excited I am," Lynns said. "I wasn't expecting to win. I thought maybe there was a chance, but I was preparing myself not to."

Lynn and Stohs received 9,217 votes, while Melissa Moyer, senior in animal science, and Christopher Deetjen, K-State alumnus, came in second place with 7,186 votes.

Kirby Burke, graduate student in early childhood special education, and David Richard, senior in elementary education, tallied 6,183 votes and Tricia Sanders, sophomore in elementary education, and Joshua Gorden, freshman in agriculture economics, had 321 votes.

About 23,000 total votes were counted.

Christopher Harrop, online editor for the Collegian, said more than 4,000 votes were disqualified after he realized last week that duplicate votes were being cast and fake or modified IP addresses were being used. As a result, Harrop ran analysis tests of the final totals and confirmed the official results Saturday.

In December, individuals will have the chance to vote for their favorite bridal gown.

Four gowns will be displayed in Dec. 5 in the Collegian's Once in a Lifetime section. Throughout the spring semester, individuals will also have the chance to vote for their favorite bridesmaid dresses, tuxedos, flowers, invitations, and the bride's hair style.

Although many brides would prefer to choose their own dress, Lynn said she did not have a problem with others making the decision for her.

In fact, Lynn said others' decisions will only make things easier.

"It seems like I tried on 200 dresses, but I didn't buy any of them," Lynn said. "We haven't done a lot of planning, so this is perfect."

Voting for the dress begins Dec. 5 at www.kstatecollegian.com.

So wait, who won??? Did your sister win, even though the polls stayed open and the other couple got more votes? I'm so confused.

I hope she won though - I voted for her!!

Lynn and Stohs did win because there was evidence of vote tampering so many votes were disqualified. The result was that Lynn and Stohs ended up winning.
I am very happy for them!
