When sororities started up at Texas A & M in the seventies, we weren't recognized by the university. All the "Texas Biggies" came and colonized anyway--Pi Phi, Kappa, Chi O, Tri Delt, Theta, and Zeta. I don't think it was too long until the university gave in and recognized the groups but they'd just opened the university fully to women and what'd they expect? That the women would just join the Rodeo Club?
ETA: yes, I know that some women do that and I'm not downing that-- because I have 3 degrees in ag. However, the kind of women who flocked to TAMU when it opened to them were definitely the un-rodeo type.
