This is crazy. I've heard of chapters that have the "everything mandatory no excuses" policies....surprise surprise, their self-termination rates are through the roof.
Most jobs in college towns will work around your college schedule, but there are always exceptions if a coworker gets sick or has a family emergency. If you are trying it shouldn't be a choice between your sorority and your job.

I agree. Today's college student has a lot more expectations, and has to suport themselves through a lot of school. If events are planned with good notice--- say 6-8 weeks, that is reasonable to request that you take off work to attend. If things are being sprung on you last-minute, it is unrealistic.
1) Is there a chapter adviser, an alumna you can talk to?
2) If there is not, talk to your campus Greek adviser about the restrictions the sorority is placing.
In order to develop strong, life-loyal members, the sorority must encourage each member to become well-rounded in the areas of scholarship, work ethic, partipication and activity on campus, leadership and personal talent.
Good luck and feel free to PM me.
