I think they mean that the only people who can join are alum initiates. However, I like to make things up.

Heaz ~ my roomate said that she thinks your sorority is having cob/cor , are y'all ? She said her sorority is having cob and a few others.. and that she would look into it for me, but I'll definately call panhellenic too, and I'm working on my grades, my gpa in highschool was either a high c or a low b. I would have to call home to find out about it. Thanks for your help.

okay so I just figured out my gpa with my summer credit, now if only tech would put in in their system, ugh , my gpa is a 2.299 & I know I can bring it up this semester, I've heard gpa isn't as important during cob as during regular rush, what's the truth in that?

Arrow Some clarifications to what has been written above...

raiderchic482: Private message me if you have questions about recruitment at Texas Tech. I have the name of the Panhellenic advisor at Texas Tech. She can put you in touch with the chapters that are holding COR/COB events.

Your best bet is to call Panhellenic immediately. For the first time since I began as an advisor at Texas Tech, Panhellenic is permitting all sororities at Tech to COR up to average chapter size,** which is exciting for you because many more chapters than usual are CORing at this time. Most chapters have at least a few opportunities that they are looking to fill.

dzandiloo I had not heard that Tech participated in any type of formalized Spring Recruitment last year. I've been working with with the Tech Alpha Phis for five years and in that time I don't think Tech has had any sort of formal (or Panhellenic-sponsored) Spring Recruitment. I could be wrong, though...

** Last time I heard -- which was a few weeks ago -- average size was 165 (I think. I can double check that number for you.)

Talking A few helpful facts about Greeklife at Texas Tech

I agree with you breathesgelatin. This is a bizarre and puzzling statement, and is certainly not true -- whatever it means.

Here is some information to clarify some misinformation about Greek life at Tech, as I have read some things above that might be confusing to those who are not familiar with Greek life at Tech (and Greek life in general).

Fact: All chapters at Tech made quota this year, but one. That one chapter is a great group and they are actively COBing at this time.

Fact: Quota at Tech this fall was 51 + quota additions

Fact: Alpha Phi took 55 new members in fall recruitment this year.

Fact: Many more chapters than usual are being allowed to COR/COB. Panhellenic voted to allow chapters to COR up to average chapter size.

Fact: Alums are not involved in Alpha Phi's recruitment process -- beyond advisory roles. Alpha Phi only accepts collegiate women. (** See note below)

Fact: Grades will be important to ALL sororities who are looking to recruit new members -- be it in the fall or in the spring; through formal recruitment or informal recruitment.

That is not to say that grades are the be all, end all. Sororities use many factors in deciding whether to extend a bid.

Fact: All sororities at Texas Tech have some kind of grade requirement. When you attend a recruitment event, you may ask your sorority hostesses what those requirements are. Or, you might choose to wait until -- and IF -- you are asked to broach the subject of grades.

NOTE
** Alpha Phi does have an alum initiate process, but alums who are initiated in this manner do not become active members of collegiate chapters.

And, alum initiation has nothing to do with formal recruitment or membership in a collegiate chapter.

It wasn't really formalized, but from what I heard at the time (I had a friend who was interested & shared what details she had with me), the Panhellenic Office & the chapters who were planning to do Spring Informal picked a specific week (or so), and then I think they advertised it in the UD for interested PNM's to contact PH, and then PH took the names/numbers/e-mails & distributed them to the groups who were participating. Otherwise, it was completely informal & up to the groups to decide what activities they wanted to do, and when they would give out bids...and they were of course free to continue to COB up to total all semester if they wanted to. Of course, I may have been misinformed about the process & PH's involvement.

I think its wonderful that they are being allowed to COB up to average size! Was I off on total? My friend decided to leave Tech, and I've been out of the loop for about a year.... I'm still glad to hear that things are going well for the groups even though I have no connection (my daughter may go to Tech someday, so I'm sort of an interested observer).

Thanks TechAPhi for the comment about ADPi. It just goes to show once again, how classy the TTU APhi's are!!
By the way, raiderchic482, I really hope you give all the chapters CORing a chance, especially ADPi!!

Cool Hey Everyone !

Thanks for all of your helpful advice on Cor/Cob ladies , I e-mailed the panhellenic advisor this morning that I'm interested in Cor/Cob, and just sent her my info. so that she could give it to the soroirites here at Tech that are having it. I also talked to my roomate last night & she said she would find out what she could on who is having Cor/Cob, I'm excited at the prospect of finding my "greek home" sooner than I thought.

tech

i think my best friend wants to go through rush next year at tech...is rush as competitive there as it is in other southern/texas schools? also how is the dg chapter down there? just wondering if it was big (like over 200 members big,or small like 150)

also...my friend really wants to be a dg (shes said she would only go dg) because i am one and she wants to become my 'sister'. even though i find this flattering i also think this might hurt her. how can i convince her that just because dg is great for me it might not be good for her. every time i urge her to go in with an open mind and open heart she says "what do you now want me in your sorority?" and gets definssive. any advice?

The average chapter size at Texas Tech is 165. All groups at Tech are being allowed to COB/COR up to 165 this year.

Delta Gamma -- along with many others at Tech -- is CORing, so I am inferring that they are not at 165.

I believe Alpha Phi is just under 165. We have just a few opportunities remaining.

And, yes, rush at Texas Tech is competitive. Not Southeast Conference competitive, but competitive nonetheless. Being Greek is a big thing at Tech.
