Johnny Cash is one of only two people inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (the other's Elvis). That's an great testament to his talent and cultural resonance.

He was one of the most talented, amazing, and prolific artists we've had in the last fifty years, and despite himself managed to be hip for many of them.

Rest in Peace, Johnny and June.

This reminds me of a point I wanted to ask. Did he win at VMA for best male video or whatever he was nominated for? I hope so. He was a great performer and will be truly missed. I just started listening to him this summer. I wanted to go see him in concert, but I guess that won't ever happen. It sucks, because, it might be because of diabettes, but I think had something to do with broken heart of lossing his wife.

I haven't been this sad at the passing of a celebrity in a very long time.It is a true loss.If Rolling Stone doesn't put him on the cover next month,I will finished as a reader. If they put the Olsen twins on the cover but not honor Johnny cash, that is truly a disgrace.

Hey, Rolling Stone lost a lot of credit in term of music a long time a go. I mean, look at their Top 100 lists.

Look at how high Kurt Cobain is rank compare to other great guitarists

12. Kurt Cobain
13. Jerry Garcia
15. Carlos Santana
27 Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits
82 David Gilmour of Pink Floyd
etc.

Johnny Cash is one of the reasons I enjoy traditional country music. I guess heaven now has a "man In Black."

On a side note....

Kurt Cobain (as a guitar player) was not even qualified to change the strings on the guitars of the musicians listed above.

No, I believe it was Justin Timberlake who won that award. But at least in his acceptance speech, he said he wanted to share it with Johnny Cash.

I wish Johnny Cash had won... may he rest in peace.

As someone who has listened to Johnny Cash her entire life, (thanks to my dad's love of country music) I have got to say that the music industry has lost an awsome man today. The first time my dad played me "A Boy Named Sue" well, two things happened I laughed at the song and my mom yelled at my dad for letting me listen to vulgarity. When I got older, I began to understand what balls it took for a man like Johnny to get up in front of a group of prisoners in San Quientin prison. "My name is Sue, how are you, now you're gonna DIE!!!!" That is a classic song, probably not his best, but it's a great song nonetheless. One that I will always remember by heart!

When I have a boy, I'm gonna name him Bill or George, any damn name but Sue!"
