yeah, im gonna have to agree with just about everyone else. the only positive feedback most of us can give you is to not do it. i'll be honest, i detest that show. it makes us all look bad, no matter how you look at it. the only reason i continue to watch that show is becuase it makes me feel better about my life and my chapter. sorry.

If you have to ask if you should be on the show, then apparently you have never seen it. If by chance you have seen sorority life, how could you possibly consider becoming a part of it....was there one aspect of one episode that showed sisters in a good light? Would you want your parents, siblings, boyfriend, friends, or whoever to see every move you make? Sorry - no positive comments here.

I wouldn't do it unless I had the FINAL approval of what would be aired. Probably won't happen, but still....
Some folks may not admit it, but I watched SL I, II, and will probably watch III as well.

As much as it would be fun to chronicle part of your life on camera... think about what people are going to see, and how you are going to be remembered.
I watched both seasons, and what frustrated me was the focus on the pledges. It should have been called "Pledge Life" or "New Member Life" or something. The sisters were portrayed poorly, and I know it was a matter of editing. I know if a semester of my chapter was taped and edited, i could come out looking completely different than how I normally am. These shows just edit what MTV feels is "interesting" to the viewers. Its a show, not reality.
Deltagirlie-- have any fun MTV related stories? Did anything good come of it? meet any celebrities? just wondering I know the Real Worlders get to travel to colleges and get to meet people all the time.

My advice is don't even think of doing it!!!!! It will make you look bad. Hey this is MTV after all. They don't give a flying moose sh!t about sisterhood, philanthropy, bonding, community service and academics. They want to show backstabbing, catfights and everything else that portrays GLOs in a negative light. It's a real shame that an organization of great women are portrayed in such a stereotypical way.

The only thing good you and your sorority will get out of doing the show is being able to say "we were on MTV's Sorority Life" and even that some people will view you how they want.
Honestly, I watch the SL series because I think they are crap and have to laugh at these GLO's that had the nerve to put themselves out there with out any control of what happens in the editing room.
If you decide to do it, know that MTV is in control and every move you make, they will twist it around for ratings.
If you can make SL4 a different show, and you know it FOR SURE than go for it, but if you have a hint of doubt, I think you should decline.
Best of luck!

I haven't read every single reply, but I think I would echo the sentiments of most of the replies here.
MTV is not looking to help you no matter what they say. THey are looking for drama & ways they can take everything you say & do out of context to make you girls look terrible. Take a peek at some of the posts on GC by members of the sororities who took part in SL. (I believe someone has already posted the links to the threads) In almost every single instance, they told us stuff like "this isn't how it happened" or something happened out of order to make it *SEEM* like something else happened... if you have to explain it to the world like that, it's quite obvious MTV didn't exactly want to show you in a good light.
Also, take into consideration what has happened in the past season. One of their biggest sponsers (greek101.com) has pulled their sponsership of both Sorority Life & Fraternity life because they felt MTV was portraying Greeks VERY NEGATIVELY.
Here's the link to their official statement:
http://www.greek101.com/mtv/mtv.html
And here's a snippet of their statement:
Quote:
Greek101.com has always believed in the importance of celebrating the many good works performed by Fraternities and Sororities throughout the country. For us, Greek life is synonymous with forging lifelong relationships, giving back to the community through service and philanthropy, fostering leadership abilities, and having good, clean fun.
It was in this spirit that we forged a relationship with MTV roughly 18 months ago to supply Greek101.com apparel for MTV's Sorority Life and MTV's Fraternity Life. Before we entered that relationship, we conducted our due diligence on the scope and nature of the shows and were assured that, although they were unscripted and spontaneous reality shows, they would most certainly seek to highlight the wholesome, philanthropic activities for which the Greek system is well known.
When the initial episodes of the premiere season of MTV's Sorority Life portrayed Sororities in a less-than-favorable light, we publicly expressed our disappointment, but were hopeful that we could influence producers and participants to abide by the original spirit of the show. Our feedback had some positive impact on the rest of the first season, which led us to believe that the second season would portray the Greek system more favorably. Unfortunately, when the second season began, it became apparent that the show - along with the new MTV Fraternity Life program - was going to continue in a direction that was contrary to the principles and standards of Greek101.com.
As a result, we feel that we can no longer, in good conscience, continue to provide our products to the two shows.

I agree with the possible down sides pointed out by previous posters. That being said, I do not think it is something that every house should reject automatically. This might be a useful way of thinking about the problem:
MTV is a for-profit corporation in the business of making shows that lots of young people will watch. This is their ONLY business; this is their ONLY motivation.
Your sorority is (I assume) a not-for-profit group, which has business relationships with for-profit entities like caterers, party venues, photographers, etc.
MTV will have brilliant, cool young marketing people who will try to distract you from the fact that this is a business transaction. You've got to look at this exactly the same way you would look at entering a business relationship with a party venue. In other words, exactly what goods/services are being exchanged for how much money, and am I getting a good deal? You would never expect that your T-shirt supplier is going to go out of its way to help your sorority outside of what they are contractually bound to provide; you should never expect that with MTV, either.
If you look at the pros and cons in this light, and it seems like the project might be worth your while, YOU MUST MUST MUST get your own lawyer to advise you before you make any deals with them. Maybe one of your sisters has a lawyer parent. MTV has fantastic legal staff, and it will take a true expert on YOUR side to figure out exactly what MTV wants to be able to do.

Omigod, I had recently learned from one of my sisters that our sorority was being considered for a season of Sorority Life. I am glad that we didn't do it because it portrays GLOs in the worst light possible. And to quote my sister: all the girls on that show look whiny and annoying.
Still shame on EmptyV!
If they approach your GLO, RUN THE OTHER WAY!!!

Do you think Tom meant "crotch" or "couch" or maybe "pouch"?

IF your groups of girls don't mind being in a reality TV show, then you should definitely do it.
You are not responsible for the total image of all things Greek so don't let that argument sway you.
