If she finds a former teacher, neighbor, friend of the family or someone who actually KNOWS her, then of course.

But if she has to hunt one up from a random alumna, then getting the rec would be more difficult & probably not make it in time.

For example, if one of my former students emailed/called me today for a rec @ UNF, I'd at least call to speak with the membership chair.

Kalie,

The alum doesn't have be an alum of that particular school's chapter. In your hometown, there should be an alumnae Panhellenic. They can put you in touch with local women you can meet who will write you a rec. Or, you can go into the sorority forums on GreekChat and inquire if there is a Greek Chatter who can help you.

Good luck!

Blah

Yep. This is my "official" thread. Makes it sound all exciting and whatnot, but nothing exciting has really happened yet since rush is still a week away. It seems so far from now... but hopefully time will go by fast. Mhmm. I still have no idea what I'm going to be wearing to any of these events... but I have been reading up on the chapters so that I know whats up when it comes time for questions and stuff. Thanks everyone for the good luck's and the good advice. I will post again as soon as something at all relating to rush happens.

shopping

Ok. Today I went to the mall and bought a new skirt and shirt and some other stuff for next week. I was trying to find the perfect dress for pref night, but no luck. I don't even really know what I am looking for.. but its not at the Avenues mall that's for sure.

Tomorrow I am meeting Smiley21 and she is gonna have pity for me and show me around campus, since I am a Freshman and don't know where my classes are. Also I am going to turn in my recruitment application thing and the fee and hopefully get the ball rolling on this whole idea.

One more day!!

Ok. Tomorrow is the beginning of rush!! Im am so nervous/excited and have really been waiting for this for so long. Ahh. The schedule for this week looks like this....

Orientation- Wed Aug 27th 7pm
During orientation you will have a chance to meet the other girls going through recruitment. You will be informed of the week's events and be put into groups. Each group is led by a Pi Chi, who will be with you for the entire week to answer any questions you might have.

Ice Water Parties- Thurs Aug 28th 6pm
Ice water parties are the first opportunity for PNMs to meet the sororities and talk with all the women. You will visit each chapter this night for 25 minutes a piece.

Philanthropy Night- Fri Aug 29th 6pm
On Philanthropy night you will learn about each chapter's philanthropy and community service. Parties will last 30 minutes each. This is the first invitational round, therefore you may not be visiting all the sororities this night.

Preference Parties- Sat Aug 30th 5 pm
This final night is the night to think about each sorority on a more serious level. Chapters that invite you back this round are considering offering you a bid for membership. The chapters will be sharing a ritual type ceremony that epresses what their chapter means to them. This night you will visit each sorority by invitation only. In the event that you are invited to all three sorority pref parties, you must choose two to attend. At the end of these parties, PNM's will sign their bid cards which indicate which sorority you feel would be best suited for you.

~~~~~
I was going to use the Larry Moe and Curly as the titles for the chapters but then i got waaaaaay too into and was trying to see which group represented which guy the most, so Im gonna make it simple and use colors.
BLUE
RED
PURPLE
Well I guess thats all. i will update tomorrow night after I get home.
Orientation....
Oh my goodness! Last night was so much excitement piled into like a two hour span of time. When I got to school I went straight into the building where we were meeting. Smiley21 was behind me with this really funny girl, who I think is named margret. And the girl sitting next to me went to Bishop Kenny HS, which is were my ex-boyfriend was from so we had something in common to start conversation.
Basically they just instructed us in everything that was going to go on in the week and introduced us to all of the pi chi's. Each pi chi has this theme going on so that their group is easily recognized and they were announcing them like "taylor has cherries... and sara has hearts... and lindsey has crabs..." It was so funny for one of the sisters to say that.. definitely broke the tension. She was all "uh. I mean her theme is crabs...."
At one point they all sung the greek alphabet song and the sisters from ALL the chapters came into this tiny little theater and were screaming and yelling and whatnot and they REALLY made a statement. Geez.. they can get loud.. but it was really cool seeing how all the groups had bonded together. One thing I really noticed was that all three groups looked equally excited and the girls in all of them were pretty and dressed nice... at this point I am still neutral as to prefrences for the colors. G O G R E E K !
