At least on my campus, stolen composites are always returned. We also steal things like paddles, and we had a banner that we kept in the corner of our chapter room with the symbols, our founding date, chapter name, etc. that was stolen once.

Composite stealing is relatively rare just because those things are so heavy. It's a lot easier to steal a paddle.

Composite "stealing" is also pretty common on our campus. I have never known a house to keep and never return a composite though...I think it would be too hard to keep is secret. Since just about all of the fraternity and sorority houses are next door to each other, I figure that someone, somewhere would know about it and then it would get back to the house that lost it. Another common thing that is taken are awards...those that aren't locked in cases that is! But, it is all fun and games...most of the time! Our new members took a composite of a fraternity on campus and they got really upset for some reason and tore out one of the benches that was like chained down. They replaced it, but it was totally not even necessary.

Everything on my campus that is taken is usually returned. One year our charter was stolen, and last year a banner worth points for greek week was stolen I was very pissed about that one becuase I made the banner. If a fraternity steals something from us we usually steal something from them, one year we stole Pike letters (the big wooden ones) they sta in our presidents garge for a couple of months until they gave us back something they had stolen from us. It's all in good fun.

Oh man when our composite was stolen we were SOO pissed. We don't have houses so usually ours stay in storage except for rush, but last year someone stored it in their apartment and a frat boy (who's GLO will remain nameless) came and stole it!!!! To top it off, he AND the whole chapter denied doing it...even though we had hard evidence he did...but then he got kicked of the fraternity and suspended from school (for other behavior problems) and we never heard from him again, so it was impossible to track the composite down ...last I heard it was at some GIRL's house but why the hell would some random girl want a sorority composite?!? She should just return it...we didn't even get to use it during rush.

Composite stealing is a common little prank... but at least we usually just make the boys do some stupid little stunt to get it back... it can be all in fun... but if that's the case it should be RETURNED

but see, we dont even know who stole it, if it was just a person off the street, a soro member joking around and just never returned (or didnt want to) or a frat that did it. It was at the pres' housse and someone left the door unlocked, oh well. It has been like 3 or 4 years there is no hoope for it i guess.

the only time composite "stealing" has really gone on on our campus (that i've seen) is fraternities stealing other fraternities, or stealing an older composite from a sorority (from waaaay back, one that's not necessarily prominently displayed, etc.).

I'd just be ticked if someone "stole" a newer one. Like I said earlier, those puppies are EXPENSIVE- and who would want to get a big gouge in the wood, etc.?. and as already stated, they're heavy as all heck.

As for stealing charters, i do think that's a little wrong. That's something in your house that should mean a lot to the chapter. But then again, there was a fraternity on our campus a few years ago that trashed their house one evening and destroyed their own charter. Classy guys needless to say, they are no longer on campus.

Trophies get taken a lot.... and other stupid things sometimes (like mascots, etc). I guess it's pretty easy for the sororities- there's nine of us in one building, you can get off the elevator or stairwell at any floor. I guess the more "challenging" ones are the two sororities not in the building

Really? I'd be more ticked off if an older one was stolen. While they are very expensive, a newer one might be easier to replace if it was never returned. An older one would be much harder to replace. How can you replace a composite that is 40 + years older? It's much easier to replace one that is only a few years old.

Composite stealing on my campus is rampant. Girls take the guys, they take ours, it's all in good fun! And it's so exciting to get them back with magazine clippings and candy all over them. One time I had "worth it" taped to my picture which made me kind of likie but hey guys don't always know I guess. The other times they have always sweet things like beautiful, sexy, hot stuff, etc. And if you are close with a house usually the stuff they tape on will be all inside jokes. It's a totally fun time though, and I looooove to "break in" haha to the fraternities to grab them.

If I caught any idiot trying to steal my composite, I'd grab him by the nads and then throw him onto oncoming traffic. 'Nuff said.

I've heard of composite 'stealing'. I remember when I was an alpha we were broken into groups and sent on a scavenger hunt. One of the items was to get a composite. We didn't steal it, we went over to some frat and I was the one who actually asked for it. He willing handed a composite over to me. I mean maybe it was because he knew it would be returned (and it was). I'm not sure.
But I would be pissed right now if a current composite was 'stolen' especially with rush coming up and everything. It seems like the composite 'wars' should just wait until rush is over.

Perhaps it's just a Nebraska thing, but composite stealing is a big part of Greek Life here. At one point during my freshman year Kappa Delta had composites from every IFC fraternity on campus.

This past year we one week where sororities took our composites from teh last three years, and when sorority #4 came looking they took our Member award plaques...

LOL

This is so true at my school too, so it's not just a Nebraska thing. Actually we all live in a circle of houses called the village and anything that is not nailed down (literally) is fair game for *stealing.* Everything eventually gets returned. Yeah we take all kinda of things: composits, plaques, letters, paddles, couches, staff's, etc... Actually we now screw everything into the walls so it doesn't go on "visiting"

*remembering* hehe last year one of the fraturnties stole one of the sororities letters (think very large abc block style letter) and repainted them in their colors, which resultes in all out village war for a few weeks... hehe...
