This comes from my own experience. I joined what had been a PSE chapter in 1986. In 1987 I attended the PSK convention. While there I talked to brothers from many of the old PSE chapters and the story was always the same. Alumni support had taken a nose dive since the merger 2 years earlier. While some chapters had been able to keep a remnant of alumni support others were totally alienated from their PSE brothers.
Throughout the late 80’s whenever I had the opportunity to talk to brothers from old PSE chapters the story remained the same – poor support from PSE alumni. In the early ‘90s, now that we had a number of PSK alumni, we restarted the alumni club that had been inactive since the merger. I called up the PSK national office and talked to the Director of Alumni Development. One of the things I discussed with him was the lack of involvement of the PSE alumni and I asked him if he had any ideas on how to improve the situation. He informed me that we were not alone. That most of the PSE alumni did not support PSK. He suggested that we send out a few letters, see who responded and to just drop the rest from our mailing list to save money.
