I think I posted it before, but I can't find it. Anyway, some alums say that a girl from my chapter died (sometime in the 80s) and she haunts the third-floor 4-person room. One of my sisters showed me her picture on one of the old composites that hangs in the chapter room. Oddly enough, weird things happen in our basement, but that could be because we supposedly have another ghost down there, and girls who live, or have lived there, including myself, have had some experiences that were a little odd. She doesn't like men, so we were always careful not to leave our boyfriends down there alone.

I've also heard stories about the Kappa house, too...something about the basement and a boy, but it's been so long I can't remember the details. Ask them about it.

lol thanks so much for that post! It's 2:40am, I am alone in my apartment on a stormy night with my roommate's cat and my kitten. My kitten is currently running around the room chasing after "nothing"!! Looks like I'm not sleeping tonight!!

So yeah....I've always heard that our house is haunted. It is something that I have truly believed because all of us always thought that it was Dorothy Garrett Martin (a member of our chapter in the 30's). We always knew that she was a "nice" ghost and the most that she would do is blink the lights off and on (or flicker them), open cupboard doors and shut them, etc. Nothing too frightening. All we would have to do is say "Hi Dorothy" and she'd stop. Well in spring of 02 we had a band (Oval Opus) play acoustically for us before they went to Kent to perform a show. While they were singing "whisper", Dorothy started flickering the lights that totally made Aaron stop singing. We were just like, don't worry bout that, Dorothy likes you...so he finished the song but he was definately spooked

Last year, my grand lil and a couple of the other girls decided to break out the Ouija board in the "L" room. Well apparently they found out that it is not Dorothy that haunts our house but someone who is on a composite in the basement. Last semester, the two girls that lived in that room started experiencing some strange things and continually were freaked out. Michele would swear that she'd fall asleep watching a movie and instead of the TV staying blue when it ends like normal ones do, it would change channels and be all static. Miranda would be in the room and she would randomly hear the shower turn on at like 2 or 3 in the morning. When she went and checked to see if anyone was in the bathroom (which was right across the hall), the shower was off, no one was in the bathroom, and it was completely dry....

Western IL University is supposed to be the most haunted campus in the country...so of course our house is haunted...but not because it was built over a burial ground like the rest of the campus....

Our ghost's name is Linda and she was a pledge in the 80's before she was killed in a car wreck right at the corner of where our house was (but that house wasn't built until 1994). She always had it in for one sister in particular-this girl's boyfriend's uncle was the one who was in the car wreck with her. We don't know what she wanted. We thought she wanted to be iniated, but every time we asked her if she wanted to be initiated, she would not return for awhile....

I have more stories, but I have to get going to work.....

haunted sorority?

I dont'; really have any stories from personal experiences but there are a few places on my campus which are supposedly haunted.

Rowan's first building, Bunce Hall, is supposed to be haunted by the ghost of one of the theater's early directors. A few stories about this were featured in a magazine called WeirdNJ (I dont' expect anyone outside to have heard of it, but check out www.weirdnj.com sometime if you've got nothign better to do, New JErsey isn't as boring as you think!).

The sorority next door to us however is supposed to be haunted by orbs in the attic. Several of the sisters have seen them throughout the years, always in the attic, and always when you least sorta expect them to show up. The funny thing is that they used to live in our house (around 8 years ago) before we moved in. While staying there, they claimed that it was haunted there too! Something about a girl hanging herself in a doorway between the two rooms in the attic upstairs. Personally, I've lived here all summer and never experienced anything weird. Although one of my pledge Brothers lived in my room and he said that when he first moved in last summer and was all alone some nights, he'd hear footsteps walking around the upstairs and in the attic above. It used to creep the shit out of him. But there hasn't been anything like that even remotely for almost a year (maybe all the parties we had scared the ghosts away). Oh, we too have a couple of dogs that live there but they've never really gone bonkers for no reason or stared at anything that wasn't there (at least not that I've heard or seen).

So maybe it's not the house that's haunted, but the sorority itself? Weird.

Take a look at www.prairieghosts.com/oh-athen.html and there are stories on several "haunted" chapter houses at Ohio University.

Here is a link to a story about the Delt Shelter at O.U. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...ntou.html#delt

Athens, Ohio is supposedly one of the most haunted areas on earth.

Both links should now work.

Some of my spirits are probably haunting some of the uptown bars.

Sorry, working on that. In the mean time, I came on this really unbelievable quote:

"Hanning Cemetery is another reportedly haunted spot. The ghost who has been seen here is an old man who wears a long robe. He is usually accompanied by the disembodied sounds of screams that echo into the night. There have been a couple of locally famous seances conducted at the burial ground, including one in 1969, when the heavily padlocked gate of the cemetery unlocked and opened on its own during the proceedings. During another seance in 1970, the spirit of David Tischman, a deceased Ohio University student was supposedly contacted by a group of his friends."

David Tischman, a member of the Tischman Real Estate empire family, was one of my pledge brothers. He was killed in a tragic automobile accident.

I had never read about or heard of that "contact" before.

Troy Taylor, the guy who runs prairieghosts.com lives in my hometown of Alton, Illinois and owns a bookstore there. He settled here because it is (arguably) the most haunted small town in America. It's been featured in lots of television specials!

haunted house

[COLOR=teal]I'm totally bored at work as well. Yeah, I'm in Alpha Xi Delta and our house on Rider's Campus is haunted. The room that is haunted is actually next door to my room now. It's rumored that years ago two sisters got into a car accident together during the school year and now they haunt the house. We've had all sorts of weird things happen. One incident happened in my room where my roommate and I were in our room having a conversation with three of our then new members and my window fan turned it's self on and then turned off. It was plugged into a power strip with a couple other appliances and none of them were affected so it was really weird. There are more weird stories but there are too many to write down. Only that one incident happend to me though.
