It could have something to do with our parents' and their parents' having gone off to fight a war. Something like WWII or Vietnam hasn't been experienced by this generation. Good or bad I think both of those contributed a great deal to the character of the individuals that participated. Particularly WWII.
As a generation there has not been an adversity that we've really all had to deal with. So yes, I think for the most part it's generational. My generation has had life handed to us on a silver platter. Most of us don't understand the concept that you must work to get ahead, we'd rather have it handed to us.
Just take a look at all these folks who line up for government entitlements and file frivilous lawsuits rather than improving and educating themselves and getting real jobs.
