You said it right there!
I realize that there are no dumb questions, but I did get one last year that came very, very close. I was rescuing one of my sisters from a painful conversation with a rushee who was flat-out rude every time she came to the house, when she looked at me with a semi-interested expression and asked, "Who lavaliered you?" I automatically looked down and thought, "WTF?" because I was wearing my own DZ lavalier. I replied that my big sis had given it to me on Big/Little Revealing Night, and the girl gave me a strange look like I had sprouted antennae and said obnoxiously, "But I thought only guys could give girls lavaliers?" Um...OK.

This thread is very interesting to me, because I have never gone through formal recruitment as a PNM or a sister. I see that I have a lot to look forward to.

I definitely see what you were saying and I think that I would feel the same way if I were in your position, but like many other things that people get confused about when it comes to sororities, maybe she honestly thought that. However, there was no need for her to be rude!

NO JOKE- as a rushee I went through and one of the "TOP" houses asked me straight up
"If you were a piece of furniture what would you be and why?"
ANSWER THAT! I looked at her and said "Are you serious" and she nodded and I wanted to say a door so I could shut you out, but I just avoided it! I didn't get asked back, oh darn!

I don't even want to know who asked you that, I swear, I don't!
Is this a new 'trend' of Recruitment questioning? I mean, I can imagine the sororities asking themselves these kinds of questions. It's a good thing to be ready to answer any kind of PNM question, because there's going to be the year when Patty PNM goes down the row asking everyone stuff like that. It happens.
But a chapter member asking a PNM stuff like that? Totally weird stuff. It almost makes me miss the "What does Daddy do? Where did you travel this summer? Do you have a job?" line of rush questioning.

LOL! This topic was the best ever! I'm dying over here reading all the craziness!
I went through recruitment this past fall, but all my sisters and friends in other sororities talk about this one girl who told stories about how she liked to bury cats in the group with their heads sticking up and then mow over them with the lawnmower. I mean, come on, imagine if someone said that to you even as a joke. Talk about a pscyho! And what's sad is that we have a sister now who went to high school with her and said it sounds like something she'd do because she really is that crazy.
But yeah, what would make you wanna share that with someone?! CRAZINESS!!

I have a stupid question now - do girls in bigger houses (cold air or not) often smuggle boys in? Who enforces your visitation rules, if at all?
(I come from a very small house, no house mom, only 8 girls living in...)

Some of these are SO FAR OUT that I HAVE to believe they are somewhat shy and got hold of book on "Ice Breakers"...
Either that or they fried their brains somewhere along the line.

we had a girl come through and asked us if we liked hot dogs and what we liked on them if we actually answered "yes, i like hot dogs with ketchup and mustard" she would qoute some magazine article and tell us how we liked to have sex.....um, yeah, she didn't come back!
also, we had a girl who did the whole "if you could be an animal, what kind of animal would it be" question, and honestly a few of us felt like it was kinda odd just bc it was the first day of recruitment and they were there to get to know the sorority, not what kind of animal we wanted to be. and even if we did answer she would always say she would be a dog.....even if we didn't ask. she ende up in another house.

I'm just waiting for someone to ask "If you could be any gardening tool, which would it be?" and for the rushee or sister to answer, "A hoe"

Good one!
Well this happened at a COB party. THe COB party was at a skating rink. The question itself wasn't so odd, it was the context. The girl who like rushed with me asked the sisters "Do they serve alcohol here?". Ummm yeah...like they'll serve alcohol at place where people are SKATING.

What's cold air? Is that another name for a dormer?

Nah, I think she was referring to another post where a PNM asked about visiting hours in "cold air". I guess the PNM meant that hours would be different when it was cold out?!
To answer the question GP - We did NOT sneak boys in on a regular basis. In fact, I only know of two times. Once was me!! It was actually at the end of the year and most girls had moved out and I was moving out and needed him to carry something heavy to my car. We did end up smooching and stuff. No one was home, though, and it wasn't planned!!!
The other time a girl's bf showed up outside her ground floor window, was really drunk, and he wouldn't leave. So she let him in, he slept it off on the couch, and she snuck him out the next morning.
We didn't bring boys in b/c we didn't want them around, truthfully! It was nice to be able to go down the hallway in your pjs, or a bra or robe or looking like crap. Plus, it's a rule Chi O is very strict on so we observed it. If you wanted to be with a guy, you could easily go to his place.
