In response to both McCoyred and Steeltrap, do we know if their were different reactions this time? I haven't read the previous news accounts but this latest one implies that Guiliana felt there was a threat of a race riot. Do either of you know whether there were protests before by Asians or Gays?
LadyGreek, I'd have to look that up. None of the stories that I've seen so far indicated that Asians, gays or Hasidic Jews, who were also mocked, protested.

Maybe it's because NYC has a history of race conflict between Black citizens and the Police Department (as do other cities such as Cincinatti and L.A.). When Guilliani was in office there were times when tensions were pretty high, especially during the summer when it was really hot and everyone was irritable.

If they protested, it was not made part of this current debate. However, I think the officers are protesting (and I believe their union in backing them) because they were fired. If other officers were fired, that should be coming out. Although I highly doubt that it was the case.
