Ah, thanks for that. I like traditional 'roots' country music; most of this new country stuff doesn't move me (Faith Hill? Shanu-uh Twain? Chickens, go back and listen to some Patsy Cline or Loretta Lynn and THEN we'll talk!) I think that's why I love the Dixie Chicks so much - you can feel the "country" in their music, and it's not just about twangy guitars and a pedal steel.

Pat Green and the like are definitely more traditional that Nashville country (the country you are referring to). Pat and his friends do have a slight rock sound, but ya don't really hear only that. If you have Kazaa or something similar, you should download some Pat Green, Cory Morrow, or Roger Creager. I love their stuff! Roger Creager is from my hometown too (Corpus Christi, TX)!

Hollywood country is more like it.. Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline were considered Nashville country back in the day, but now they're classified as "Americana" artists. Sacrilege! Thank goodness for KPIG radio online - otherwise I'd never get to hear this kind of stuff. Thanks for the tip about the other artists!

If you want some country with a twist, try to find something by Robert Randolph and the Family Band. They're the backing band for the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, and this guy.. I swear, he's the Jimi Hendrix of the pedal steel! They take tradiational gospel/blues/country and make it into something that you've never heard before. You can see video clips at Austin City Limits: http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/artists/program430.html
or you can view them at the Robert Randolph website: http://www.robertrandolph.net/look/index.html

That reminds me of when I used to live in the heart of Kansas! I bet KPIG reads the hog and corn futures after the Chicago Mercanitle closes too!

Paul Harvey anyone??? GooooOOD DAY!

But seriously, I have to admit that I'm waiting for Macy Gray's CD to come out next month. She's just so kick-y and the single that got radio play out here about two months ago just sounds like a lot of fun.
