ABC / USA

Here's the deal (as I understood it from my parents - the king and queen of television - seriously.... 5 tv's (not including in car), 7 VCR's - all programmed, and working, 3 DVD's - not to mention one combo VCR/DVD....yes, dad has had them ALL recording different shows at one time while watching two others between PIP - the man needs THERAPY)...

anyway - sorry to rant -

the show was marketed to ABC who refused it - they said "it'll never work - no market for it" etc. So USA said "hey we'll take it" -- about 2 epsisodes in, ABC said "you know, we would like to add this to our line-up after all" and USA said "great - you can pay us super $$$ and we will give you the RE-RUNS of the new shows that we air on Friday" -- and ABC took it. This year, I guess USA said "it's ours" and took off with it.

It is a good show - I am SO shocked that someone with OCD has not cried that it is discrimination to say "defective detective" although what a great tag line to get people interested! You know the good ol USA - what can I sue you for?!

Re: ABC / USA

Interesting background on the show's history. It must feel good to be fought over by two networks.

Actually, I've heard that it's a decent representation of people living with OCD. And frankly, I think it's kind of cool to see a fuctional person with OCD on television. Usually people with mental disorders are portrayed as dangerous and/or suicidal.

*realizing how silly she sounds...stops to decide if she cares...then remembers how much she loves Tony Shaloub*

Tony Shaloub is an awesome character actor. And did you know that the guy who plays the Captain, Ted Levine, was the serial killer in Silence of the Lambs? I never would have figured that out on my own.

I loved the season premiere on Friday. Monk and Sharona's chemistry is definitely picking up. But the scene with Monk reading the poem to his wife at the tree... omg. So touching. I hope we learn more about her this season.

Ok that makes me feel so much better. I thought I was the only one that got out tissues at the point. My family was laughing at me calling me a water-head...it's the name we use for someone who's crying for no real reason. Anyway I went to check out the USA Network site and they have all this cool crime solving games and stuff. If you guys wanted to find out more about the show/characters i would suggest it. I had fun with it

Decided to dredge up this thread because it's the only show I watch on a constant basis (Sat. reruns, usually), besides Jeopardy. I was disappointed when they got rid of Sharona, but I think I actually like Natalie better.
