Since you won't be able to compete with the larger houses in terms of size, you have to literally kill guys with kindness and make them feel that they are welcomed and at ease with becoming part of the house.

From some of your previous posts, it sounds like your chapter is genuinely trying to turn things around. If so, be sure and hammer this into guys' heads. They'll hear stories from guys at other houses, but be sure to keep everything positive and upbeat. For example, if a rushee asks "so I heard Delta Sigma Phi is the worst house on campus" or whatever, respond with "well, we have made our share of mistakes in the past, but we are trying to become better. We won APhi's philanthropy and we placed third in Greek Week. This year, we want to win Greek Week, improve our academic standing and reputation, and become a force at SDSU." Then, be sure to get confirmation from the recruit as to what he wants from a fraternity. Make sure that you can offer this to him.

Also, be realistic in your goal for the recruitment period. Chances are, you're not going to get 50 pledges or whatever, but 20 may be. Decide on what your goal is and put a plan in place to achieve it.

I was the rush chair of a 30-man chapter with 18 seniors that recruited and initiated enough men to double our size in one year. This can be done with a focused plan, energetic brothers, and an optimistic attitude that you can and will accomplish your task. Best of luck and keep us informed.
and this is why I love the boys of PiKA

Is this confirmed? Do you know if they still own the old house they used to occupy? This is the first I've heard of LXA's return to SDSU - they did NOT leave on good terms, that's for sure.

They have sold their property on Campanile and Montezuma (Currently occupied by Sigma Pi) to the University Foundation, and have closed escrow on what was originally the Sammy Compound at Fraternity Row. Where Sigma Pi, Sammy and AEPI (who were forced to move out of their compound now that the owners, Kappa Sig, are rechartering) will stay is anyone's guess.

They will return in the Spring, but will not move into the Saammy house until the next fall in 2004.

LXA Alum, I pmed you about something else.

They originally were supposed to move to Fraternity Row, but chose to move there. ZBT moved into their spot.

1) That's what I heard. ADPi is moving into the old ZBT house (which I heard was a dump)

2) I was told that the Sigma Pi house, originally owned by LXA, was sold to the University, and eventually will be torn down along with some of the other houses to pave way for that whole SDSU redevelopment project.

Question

When are they breaking ground on the sorority houses and when's the expected completion date???? I know SK and AXO are "in the path of development" so I hope it's all done soon.

sorority

Are they building a complex for the Sororities at SDSU like they did for the Fraternities. I might transfer there in a semester or two, im just glad that Sigma Pi at SDSU decided not to move into the complex.

new home

When I was at SDSU, I didn't think the complex was fraternity houses, they are more of Fraternity dorms., so I still agree with Sigma Pi at SDSUs decision not to move into the complex
