TRUST ME....You could get called worse....

The year I pledged, we got called "the sorority that takes you when no one else wants you."

Imagine how sick I was when people kept coming up to me saying "So what was your *first* choice?" I was happy to reply that I CHOSE tri sigma not only because of the high GPA but because I loved everything we stand for. If these girls were "the bottom of the barrel" I sure would hate to see the top because they cant get much better.

It also made me smile when I would just hold my head up and say "As a matter of fact, my legacy is in blah blah sorority but I dont feel at home there."

You'll make it. I promise. We did and we are happy to boast a strong membership both active and alum. It'll work out.....True sisterhood always wins in the end.

*mlk

Chin up Sarah!

The south can be rough on sororities sometimes!
Continue to feel strong in your sisterhood and take pride in SDT!

Sarah, fear not!!!!!

When I started my local, that was the only time that I saw the entire Greek Community back someone other than their own!

They backed my local to get on campus. Since we went LXA at the end of the school year, it has been tooth and nail since. That was 1965 and this is 2003. The trouble is that it is still the same inspite of the LXA Alums trying to push the Actives to be the leaders of getting the Greek Organizations to work together for the good of the whole!

As I have stated in other threads, I would much rather be in a smaller Org and know My Brothers than a larger one and knew only 10 %!!

Give me an acorn that falls from a good tree, and I will show you a tree that grows!

We have a chapter here that will be coming in with 7-10 girls in the fall when we and the other chapter on campus will have 30 plus. They were chartered in 2000. I know it can be difficult, but put it in perspective: you guys haven't been around as long, it takes time to build numbers and reputation and as much as it sucks to be the active who has to struggle with making that reputation, remember that YOU are the one who gets to establish the legacy of sisterhood for your chapter!!! one day when your chapter is 100 strong they will look back at you as one of the girls who made it happen. I do think things get better over time. The smaller chapter at my school has bounced back from 4 girls to seven, they have made fantastic use of COB (do it!!!) and they are about to put on a kick ass rush this fall!!! I really expect them to make quota, I think the whole greek community does. Keep your chin up, and remember that immature humor is exactly that. Hang in there things will get better if you set it in your mind that they will!!!

Because of these comments, I was determined to get to know some of the girls and form my own opinion of them. I so far have absolutely LOVED what I have seen and learned. I hope this is somewhat encouraging to you. People are mean and point out the supposed negative aspects of others because they think it makes them look better by comparison. They are more often than not sadly mistaken.
i really wish that ALL pnms had this viewpoint! there are plenty of them out there, but not enough. i really hate when one sorority is being "bashed" by the others. being small is not equal to being bad. coming from the smaller chapter, i know that it takes a lot of work. when i rushed there were 13 sisters (3 years after its founding)....my class added 11 more. the following year, we added 16.....then we added 6. have you ever had to tell your chapter that after bid matching, you only matched 1 girl???? i did. people were devestated. just when we thought we were going in the right direction, something happened. ten years after our founding, we are still the "smallest" chapter. we are up to close to 50....i think, before graduation. the other chapters are at 75.

sarah, hang in there. through all of the "crap" that came with being in the smaller chapter, like having 3 offices and hearing nonsense, i would NEVER EVER have made a different choice! being in the smaller group takes a lot of hard work and dedication. isn't it great that the girls who are NOT willing to put in that time and effort are going to other groups?

(please note, i am not saying that the big groups are filled with people who don't care)

Don't let people hate. The smaller chapters nine times out of ten have very tight brotherhood/sisterhood and to me that it's better than haveing 200+ members. Just keep doing what you gals are doing and ignore the "naysayers".

I am in kind of a similar situation, my fraternity has only been in SDSU for a decade and my frat in general has been around for 15 years nationally, We're a young fraternity and being a latino based fraternity that only pledges during the fall makes us kind of small, we have around 40+ activwes right now which compared to other frats at state its kind of small, but i dont really care becasue i feel that we ahve a pretty thight brotherhood goign and i feel that NAK was the right choicve for me.

You're bigger than us and a couple other IFC houses, so don't feel that way. All the Greeks I know like NAK and we hope to see you at greek week this yr.
